Starbucks has been forced to recall almost half a million of its holiday mugs after numerous complaints of the metallic cups overheating and smashing.

A little over 440,000 of the holiday-themed mugs designed by Nestlé USA are being pulled from shelves and cabinets after reports they overheat or break if microwaved or filled with 'extremely hot liquids,' according to the recall notice.

The ceramic mugs with multi-colored ceramic coating were sold as part of Starbucks holiday gift sets at Target, Walmart and the military retail outlet Nexcom last Christmas.

The recall was put into order after 12 reports about the mugs overheating and breaking were filed.

Of those 12 reports, ten injuries were reported including severe burns, blisters and a cut finger.
