Louisiana Democrats are set to vote on potentially booting their party chair from office this weekend.
Katie Bernhardt sparked fury among her party after compounding statewide election losses last year after releasing a campaign video appearing to position herself for a run for governor.
She is now facing a challenge from state politics group Blue Reboot, which is organizing progressive candidates to run in State Central Committee elections.
The committee - who have 105 people attempting to run for seats in the coming vote - is now trying to oust the mother-of-four and select a new party chair.
Explaining the move against Bernhardt, Lynda Woolard, Blue Reboot’s co-founder, told LA Illuminator: 'We are in a deep hole that we’ve got to have a big coalition working to get out of.'

Woolard said that the left wing faction of Louisiana's Democratic Party are frustrated with an approach that isn't working in the traditionally Republican state.
In particular, she said that a lack of funding has handcuffed the party in recent years.
'People say "I never hear from the Democratic Party until there’s a candidate that wants my vote,’' Woolard said.

'And it’s really hard to motivate voters when it’s two weeks before an election and they don’t know who you are and haven’t heard from you before.'
The move against Bernhardt was fueled by their crushing losses in statewide elections in 2023.
Democratic Governor candidate Shawn Wilson was easily beaten by Republican Jeff Landry, and Democrats lost every singly statewide election.
The GOP also now commands a supermajority in the state legislature after Democrats lost significantly.
While serving as the state's DNC Chair, she sparked backlash last year with her own apparent run for the governor's mansion - with many in her party feeling her role was to promote other Democrats, not herself.

She fired a shotgun and fawned about how she would put Louisiana over national politics, before ending speculation about diving into the race soon after amid criticism.
'I’m not running for governor or anything else right now,' Bernhardt said in a statement at the time. We’re working to rebuild the Louisiana Democratic Party, which starts with fielding strong, capable candidates for statewide office.'
Among her critics was Democratic state Rep. Travis Johnson, the vice chairman of the party, who slammed her for 'self-promotion.'
'The Louisiana Democratic Party is at a standstill because the leader is not committed,' Johnson said at the time.
Bernhardt's critics are also reportedly looking to expand diversity in the state Democratic Party, with white Democrats in Louisiana becoming almost non-existent.
Although her potential ousting depends on this weekend's ballot, she is already facing challenges.
Former state Rep. Randal Gaines, who currently serves on the Democratic National Committee, has announced his challenge, and LA Illuminator said Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis is also considering a run.
Lewis added that bringing in new voters will be critical if Democrats are to stand any chance.
'One of the challenges we’ve seen is the largest share are not white moderates, but it is the non-voter,' Lewis said.
'There is a significant opportunity for the Democratic Party not to be consumed with what the makeup of the pie is now, but to grow the pie.'
