Democratic Senator Chris Murphy deletes tweet complaining that he was 'bumped off' CNN because of the Kate Middleton cancer announcement

Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy stuck his foot in his mouth ahead of Kate Middleton's cancer reveal on Friday.

Murphy chimed in when journalist Yashar Ali reported that U.S. broadcast networks planned to air a special report on the Princess of Wales' health at 2 p.m.

'Can confirm! I was supposed to be on @CNN at 2pm to talk about the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act and the millions of lives it has saved, but my interview has been bumped by this much more important topic,' Murphy posted to X.

What the networks aired was the future queen's announcement that cancer had been discovered after she had abdominal surgery in January.

Murphy has since deleted the tweet.

DailyMail.com's request for comment to Murphy's office wasn't immediately returned.

Middleton's video message - released to the media globally at the same time - ends the speculation of her whereabouts that has enraptured Americans for weeks.

She hadn't been seen publicly on official business since December.

Video released last weekend by The Sun of her out shopping with her husband Prince William prompted conspiracy theories that the woman who appeared to be the princess wasn't actually her.

She was also involved in a photoshop scandal on the U.K.'s Mother's Day, with wire services around the world pulling the image of the princess due to the obvious editing.

At the time of her January surgery, Kensington Palace said cancer wasn't present.

It was subsequently found in post-surgery testing, Middleton said, and she is undergoing 'preventative' chemotherapy.

Middleton said her public absence was due to the family needing time to share the news with the royal couple's three young children.

'It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK,' she said.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre fielded a number of questions on Middleton amid her public absence, including whether the White House edited photos of the president, vice president, first lady and second gentleman.

'Why does the monarch have to do anything with us? No, that is not something that we do here,' Jean-Pierre said at a briefing earlier this month.

Some eagle-eyed conservatives posted to X that Murphy's tweet was in bad taste.

'PATHETIC,' wrote Steve Guest. 'Of course Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy is trying to make the Kate Middleton news about himself.'

Stephen Miller, former President Donald Trump's immigration adviser, also chimed in.

'What an incredibly crass and crude post from Sen. Murphy,' Miller said, sharing a screenshot of the since-deleted post.

X user @laurieinri responded observing, 'Turns out the topic was about lifesaving health [care] after all.'
