Video footage revealed the moment a California woman was airlifted to the hospital after being crushed inside a dumpster truck when the garbage bin she was sleeping in got emptied.

The woman, who has not yet been identified, had fallen asleep in a trash bin in Buena Park and was inadvertently dumped into a trash collection truck.

She was rescued on Friday morning after the operator of the trash truck heard noises coming from within the vehicle.

'It went smoothly,' Capt. Greg Barta, an Orange County Fire Authority spokesman told The Mercury News. 'It's something they train for all of the time. When an unusual call comes in like this they are able to perform it safely, effectively and efficiently.'

The OCFA released a statement on X, formerly Twitter: '“Routine” call - Not this morning for the firefighters from station 61 in Buena Park. Crews were called to the scene to assist a woman who was inside a trash truck and injured. The victim was sleeping in a dumpster when it was emptied into the truck.'

'Our firefighters accessed the patient, began treating her, and executed a high-point operation to extricate her from the truck. These types of “out of the ordinary” calls are what our crews constantly train for!'

At approximately 7:30 am, firefighters responded to a call on the 8000 block of La Palma Avenue.

Firefighters accessed the truck from the top and provided medical assistance to the woman.

Using ropes and a pulley system attached to a ladder fire truck, they lifted the woman, who was placed in a stokes basket, out of the trash truck.

Subsequently, the basket was lowered to the ground and the woman was transported to a hospital.

The women is in stable condition, said Barta.

Barta mentioned that firefighters frequently practice similar rescues from various scenarios, such as ditches and roofs.

The operation proceeded smoothly, he said, highlighting the firefighters' performance and training.

It's unclear at the time why the woman was sleeping in the garbage bin.

In January, a New Hampshire woman was compacted by a garbage truck four times after 'falling' into a dumpster.

She has since been released from the hospital with minor injuries.

The 60-year-old victim told firefighters she fell into the dumpster while tossing her garbage out.

The Manchester Fire Department and ambulances responded to the housing complex on Beech Hill Drive and began the process of lifting the woman out of the truck.

Video footage from the scene captured emergency crews working together to save the woman who was picked up by a garbage truck on collection day.

The truck driver did not know that someone was inside the bin until he finally spotted the woman through a camera that was placed inside the truck, after it compacted her at least four times.

The rescuers used a basket to lift the woman out of the truck that was pulled by the fire truck crane.

It's unclear how long the woman was in the dumpster but firefighters said they were able to speak to her through an access point, where she was heard talking and screaming, but could not clearly answer questions.

Firefighters quickly decided to get to the woman through the roof of the truck and soon placed her in a harness attached to a rescue basket.

She was then transferred onto a gurney as both paramedics and firefighters rolled her to an ambulance as snow flurries fell from the sky.

The fire chief confirmed he and his crew had to perform a 'technical rescue,' which is when firefighters have to use specialized skills and tools to conduct a rescue.
