The Princess of Wales' appearance sat alone on a bench to reveal she had cancer showed 'her as a strong woman sharing an innately strong message to the nation' and that 'she didn't need anyone sitting next to her'.

Wearing simple striped jumper paired with a casual pair of jeans, Princess Kate told the world she had been diagnosed with cancer after her abdominal surgery, and that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

Some questioned on social media why her husband, the Prince of Wales, was not by her side as she delivered the news, but it has been said she did it alone as she is 'strong'.

'This was her as a strong woman sharing an innately strong message to the nation. She didn't need anyone sitting next to her,' a royal source told The Sunday Times

They added: 'He has been supporting her and the family in the background.'

After weeks of conspiracy theories and mocking posts about Kate's whereabouts over social media, many were gave grovelling apologies after she revealed why she had been out of the public sphere.

The Princess did not address the conspiracies directly but instead, she focused on her 'young family', her sense of duty and even took time to reflect on the experiences of all those battling the disease.

According to a source, this announcement was not in response to those demanding to know where Kate, The Times reports, but instead to demonstrate her awareness of the importance of her role and responsibility to her duties.

The source told The Sunday Times that the announcement was not about the drama which has followed her in recent weeks, despite the fact that it had been 'upsetting' for her.

They said that she knew the news had the be shared as it would impact her work as a royal and in the short-term.

She wanted to give the news in the 'most compassionate' way possible so that the public would get it in the least surprising way.

The friend also said there were other motivations behind the decision to release the announcement video.

The source told the paper that it was an opportunity for Kate to show that she wanted to 'carry on with as active and normal a routine as possible'.

This faced ridicule after US tabloid TMZ obtained a clip of her at a farm shop in Windsor.

With some suggesting it was a PR stunt and others making untrue claims about body doubles or AI-generated images, Kate's announcement also drew a firm line on her privacy.

'Moving forwards, they will be very strict on enforcing their right to privacy,' said the source.

The Waleses announced that they would not be attending this year's Easter Sunday Service, after they'd attended the service with all three of their children - Louis, aged four, Prince George, aged nine, and seven-year-old sister Princess Charlotte -  for the first time last year.

As the family come to terms with the challenges that come from having two members struck with cancer, the Waleses have requested that the public and press respect their privacy while they have some quality family time.
