Bill Maher has likened Donald Trump to Garfield the cat - amid speculation over the former president's ability to foot a $454million bill for his fraud appeal next week.
The unlikely comparison was offered up by the progressive during his monologue on Friday's 'Real Time', days after Trump's lawyers claimed their client has been unable to obtain a bond to guarantee payment of the civil-fraud judgment against him.
Running through topics that included a prospective federal TikTok ban and the incidents currently plaguing beleaguered Boeing, Maher first honed in on Trump's supposed inability to pay his $454million fine.
The sum, he pointed out, is due Monday - leading him to bring up the comic-strip character's notorious distaste for that day of the week.
Comparing the cat's coat to the ex-head-of-state's equally orange head of hair, Maher showed no mercy as he tore into the figurative fat cat, whom he went as far as to frame as - what else? - a 'p***y.'

Bill Maher has likened Donald Trump to Garfield the cat during his opening monologue on Real Time Friday - amid fierce speculation over the former president's ability to foot a $454million bill for his fraud appeal next week
The unlikely comparison - which honed in on the comic strip character's notorious dislike for Mondays - came days after Trump's lawyers claimed their client has been unable to obtain a bond to guarantee payment of the judgment. The fine is due - when else? - Monday
'[Trump] is in a few trials going on, and one of them is in New York, because he exaggerated his net worth, how much this property was worth,' the 68-year-old began, first laying out the situation surrounding the fraud case to his audience.
He continued: 'There's a bond he has to pay the fine of $454million and he Trump has the weekend to come up with it.'
He went on to drop the now-viral Garfield bomb, saying the former commander in chief is essentially 'Garfield now.'
Met with woops and cheers, Maher concluded: 'He's a fat orange p***y who hates Mondays.'
Not satiated by the laughs that ensued, the talking head proceeded to freestyle more on the subject of the aspiring second term president's appeal, which comes amid claims New York AG Letitia James chose the massive sum to stop his run in its tracks.
'This is pretty interesting stuff,' Maher said of the emerging dynamic.
'Donald Trump, the great billionaire, the great "businessman", could lose his businesses his properties, his money.'
Poking fun at Trump's famously fashionable spouse's hesitance to chide her husband for alleged misdeeds, Maher - who is unmarried - would go to quip: 'Today Melania was seen wearing a coat that says okay, now I do care.'

Images from inside Mar-a-Lago shows stacks of boxes of classified documents in a bathroom. Maher obliquely reference the scandal during Friday's spiel
The talking head proceeded to turned to the increasingly real possibility of Trump not producing the requested amount, citing how if he can't pay, the state of New York will begin seizing his assets.
Referencing another recent scandal surrounding fed's discovery of a trove of presidential documents illegally kept at the then-ex president's Mar-a-Lago manse in 2022. he joked about what Trump's reaction to such a seizure would be.
'Look take anything - just leave me my boxes of confidential documents,' Maher said, mimicking the GOP frontrunner. 'That's all I really care about.'
Immediately after, Maher brought up how Trump is now seeking a vice presidential running mate - sifting through a stable of candidates that includes names like Marco Rubio, JD Vance, Tim Scott and Kristi Noem.
Maher, in turn, pointed out a prospective problem with being picked - perhaps pointing to Trump's now notorious blow up with his former VP, Mike Pence, following their disagreements of how Trump handled losing the election, and the ensuing attack on the US Capitol, for which Pence was present.
'What a great job… you get to kiss ass and defend the indefensible for four years,' Maher said, before hitting onlookers with yet another punchline.
'And at the end of it a mob tries to hang you,' he said, again to raucous reception.

Trump - who has previously likened himself to Elvis - has yet to respond to the cartoon comparison. The deadline, as mentioned, is Monday, at which point the true state of the Republican's financial affairs are about to be revealed
Trump - who has previously likened himself aesthetically to figures like Elvis - has yet to respond to the cartoon comparison.
Trump, however, has tried to counter claims that he doesn't have enough money to pay the bond - even after his lawyers wrote in a court filing Monday that he had been unable to secure a bond.
In a Truth Social post on Friday, he defied this, claiming he had almost $500 million in cash.
With interest, the amount Trump owes is in excess of $464 million - though he has maintained his innocence and has stood by his desire to appeal.
If Trump fails to come up with the sum, his image as a businessman - and former world leader - will likely suffer as a result.
The deadline, as mentioned, is Monday. Either way, the true state of the Republican's financial affairs are about to be revealed.
