Dramatic video captured the moment rescue workers carried a 4-year-old girl who spent more than 16 hours under the mud in Brazil mudslides is rescued. 

Ayla da Silva was pulled out alive Saturday morning by members of the rescue team in Petropolis, 43 miles north of Rio de Janeiro after the disasters rocked the southern part of the country. 

The building where the child's family home collapsed Friday after torrential rains slammed the region.

While da Silva survived, 27 people have died across Brazil as a result of the floods and mudslides. Government officials have warned locals about the rain and noted the area has received twice what is expected in March in just a matter of a few days.

Da Silva was found wrapped around the arms of her father, Douglas da Silva, 24, who was killed. The child was one of five people who were rescued alive from the rubble of the three-story building.

Her mother, Beatriz da Silva, 25; her brother, Lukas da Silva, 9; and her maternal grandmother, Maria Casemiro, 66, were also killed.

'My son was a warrior, he spent all that time there and saved his little daughter,' Ayla da Silva's grandfather, Roberto Napoleão, told local reporters. 'You can't imagine what it is like to lose a son. It hurts so much.'

Rio de Janeiro Governor Claudio Castro and mayors had cautioned residents about possible inclement weather problems since Thursday.

Petropolis was slammed with more 270mm of rain in a period of 24 hours, double the month that meteorologists expected for all of March.

'Our city is in a crisis stage,' Petropolis Mayor Rubens Bomtempo said on social media. 'We also announced an emergency decree, due to the possibility of high rainfall recorded, with consequences in several areas, and the possibility of this scenario continuing in the coming days.'

Heavy rains carried over into the weekend and killed at least 8 people in Rio de Janeiro and 19 more in the neighboring state of Espirito Santo.

The Espirito Santo state government said Sunday that a total of 17 residents were killed countryside municipality of Mimoso do Sul. 

The countryside city of Mimoso do Soul was severely affected by heavy rains over the weekend, which forced 7,287 people to leave the homes. At least 411 residents were left homeless

Lieutenant Colonel Benicio Ferrari, the Civil Defense deputy coordinator, said Monday that recovery efforts increased in Mimoso do Sul after the water receded.

Authorities said 7,287 residents were forced to leave their homes and 411 people had their homes destroyed because of heavy rain.

The storm also hit the state of São Paulo, where authorities rescued three people trapped in a car that had crashed into a stream in the city of Lins on Thursday.

Firefighters used a rope to bring the group to shore and took them to a nearby hospital, where they underwent medical exams as a precaution and were later released in good health.
