Former President Donald Trump is continuing a war of words against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis by demanding a 'MAGA' candidate run against a GOP lawmaker who supported the governor's presidential bid.
In a late Sunday night post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: 'Any great MAGA Republicans looking to run against Laurel Lee in Florida's 15th Congressional District?'
'IF SO, PLEASE STEP FORWARD,' his post continued.
In April 2023, Rep. Laurel Lee, R-Fla., endorsed DeSantis for president and was notably the only Republican from the Florida delegation to do so.
Though she was quick to endorse Trump after DeSantis dropped out of the race in January, the damage had been done.
Now, Trump wants her to pay the price.
Donald Trump has called for a 'MAGA' candidate to challenge Florida GOP Rep. Laurel Lee (right) after she publicly backed Ron DeSantis
Lee, who previously served as Florida's Secretary of State, did not give in to Trump's demands to conduct a full audit of the 2020 election results
And payment could come soon as a willing candidate has already announced her desire to de-seat Lee.
'Great MAGA Republican answering the call and ready to serve,' former Florida State Rep. Jackie Toledo posted on X early Monday morning.
Currently, no one has filed paperwork to officially challenge Lee in the Republican primary.
But the deadline to do so has not passed, meaning if Toledo - or any other candidate - wants to run against Lee, the opportunity is theirs for the taking.
Florida's 15th Congressional District encompasses the eastern area of Tampa, which reliably leans Republican.
Lee easily sailed to victory in her 2023 Congressional bid, beating her Democrat opponent with 59 percent compared to his 42 percent.
This could bode well for any 'MAGA' loving candidate who decides to hop in the race.
But the feud between Trump and Lee may not just be about her endorsement.
Lee previously served as the Florida Secretary of State under DeSantis.
After the 2020 election, Trump pressured her and DeSantis to conduct on audit of the votes cast in her state.
Lee ran the state's election office at the time and she received threats when she resisted the audit requests.
Lee previously served as a judge in Florida before becoming its Secretary of State
She did, however, have a colleague come to her aid after Trump's late night post.
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., posted on X Monday that Trump's request for her to be challenged 'is unhelpful and unwarranted.'
Lee 'is a conservative thoughtful member of the judiciary committee,' Massie wrote.
'She endorsed DeSantis for President but then endorsed Trump when DeSantis got out of the race. More of my colleagues should call out these ridiculous bullying tactics.'
Lee's office did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com's request for comment.
