Security guards had to step in to control a group of tourists after they began battling for the best selfie spot at the top of a 15,000ft mountain.

Shocking footage shows several adults shoving and pushing each other in the middle of a bewildered crowd on the observation deck of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, in Yunnan province, China.

Dozens of tourists were seen standing in the snow with umbrellas and raincoats, trying to edge towards the side in order to get the best view before the fighting broke out.

Seemingly careless about accidentally knocking someone off the 15,354ft high platform, one tourist seemingly lost their patience and threw a punch at the person in front.

As the incident began to spiral, others began getting involved in the action as they brawled over who was next in line to snap a photo in the selfie spot.

Dozens of others were left waiting in a circle around the group that was fighting in the middle, as they tried to dodge punches on March 24.

The physical altercation began between one man and a woman with another woman, local media reported.

Footage shows that some visitors tried to intervene but the group were set on battling it out.

It was reportedly not until security staff posted around the scenic spot pulled them apart that the fighting stopped.

Police later said the parties involved have since reconciled.

The incident drew mixed reactions on the Chine social media app Weibo, where some users criticised the group and others made fun of the situation.

One user said: 'It's too shameful for people who have money and leisure.'

While another commented: 'They have made an appointment to compete at the Jade Dragon Peak. Don't join in the fun.'

And a third added: 'Arrange for them to go to the Himalayas to guard the border.'

The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a popular tourist attraction, known for its scenic views and cable cars.

It is not possible to ski on the mountain currently, but snow tubing has become popular with tourists in recent years.

It comes after two men risked their lives after getting into an altercation at one of the world's most famous selfie spots last year.

The two unnamed men got into a scrap at the famous cliff-hanging illusion spot at the top of Pedra do Telegrafo, in the western part of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after one man got in the way of another's photoshoot.

In December, a group of tourists were dumped into one of Venice's famous canals after failing to take heed of advice to stop taking selfies and sit down on a wobbling gondola.

The group of five had been shifting around the vessel, posing for photos in front of famous landmarks before the gondolier had to tell them to sit down and stay still while they made a careful manoeuvre under a bridge near St Mark's Square.

But when they ignored him and carried on, the boat rolled over and left the whole group in the canal, local media reported at the time.

And in 2018, police were forced to split up a brawl at Rome's famous Trevi fountain after two women failed to agree on who could take a selfie there first.

The women exchanged slaps and punches before relatives reacted to create a mega eight-person melee.
