A woman has died after her husband allegedly drove drunk into a lake.

The incident happened Friday night in Arizona, and saw 35-year-old Megan Maiorana lose her life.

The car she was in crashed into a lake inside the gated Canta Mia community in Goodyear, and her husband of nine years, 35-year-old Anthony Maiorana, was allegedly the one behind the wheel.

Police say he crashed into a concrete culvert before flying some 100 feet and into the body of water. The car eventually sunk, but Anthony was able to make it outside. His beloved wasn't so lucky.

Court paperwork shows that once arrested, Anthony told officers the couple had been at a baseball game, where he only had 'two beers.'

Detectives say they found he had been driving with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit, adding that they believe speed also played a part in the crash.

'A dive team responded to the scene and was able to confirm there was another occupant in the vehicle that was deceased,' police said in a statement.

Divers later recovered Megan's body, still strapped into her seat, cops in Maricopa County said.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following the incident, Anthony was hospitalized and subsequently taken into custody at Maricopa County jail, the bulletin further revealed.

Witnesses who saw the crash - and its immediate aftermath - told investigators that first, Anthony somehow managed to exit the vehicle before it sunk.

Once outside, he began frantically calling for his spouse, they recalled - before the magnitude of the situation started to set in.

A 911 call was made, and cops soon descended on the 55 and older community near Estrella Parkway and Willis Road.

Divers were then deployed to carry out a life saving operation, but were too late to make a difference.

Following the failed rescue, Anthony was hospitalized and interrogated by cops, investigators said - adding that they then carried out his arrest on several charges.

Cops went on to reveal Anthony had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .234 - far above the legal limit of .08.

Footage from the scene, meanwhile, showed crews retrieving the couple's car from the lake - all while the supply chain manager was still strapped into her seatbelt.

Court documents claim that Anthony had bloodshot eyes and stumbled while getting on a gurney before being driven to the hospital - leading them to test his blood alcohol levels.

Police also wrote that he admitted to drinking two beers, and the couple had actually been at a party in the retirement community with his spouse just before crashing.

Court paperwork said he struck the curb multiple times before careening the 100 feet, sliding across the sidewalk and grass.

While the car was 'sliding and rotating,' cops wrote in his charging documents, Anthony allegedly hit a reinforced concrete culvert - causing the car to fly and slam into the lake.

The impact from the culvert was felt on the front passenger side of the vehicle, officers said - but did not specify whether Megan died as a result of the crash, or by drowning.

The extent of Anthony's injuries were not specified, but he was confirmed to have been taken into custody at Maricopa County Jail on several charges.

The include extreme DUI, manslaughter, reckless driving, and multiple other DUI-related charges. He was then hit with a secured appearance bond of $150,000, before being placed under house arrest.

The couple lived just miles from where the crash took place, moving in roughly three-and-half years ago, neighbors told Fox 10 Phoenix.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told the station the Marioranas were 'outdoorsy' and 'adventurous', and were, 'you know, just a young dynamic couple.'

Court records further claim that witnesses and officers both tried to retrieve Megan from the vehicle before it was fully submerged, but were unsuccessful - leading Anthony to call for help.

The neighbor, who reportedly witnessed the crash, recalled of the man's demeanor: 'He was very distraught on scene. He was very upset.'

During his house arrest, Anthony will have to undergo regular alcohol tests and monitoring, cops confirmed Tuesday. He's also not allowed to drive a car.

The pair had been married for nine years. Cops are still probing the case.
