Since becoming the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, Jim Harbaugh has been living in an RV.

Being an NFL head coach is one of the farthest things from pro-bono work, as Harbaugh is set to earn $16million per year in his return to professional football.

Harbaugh signed a five-year contract with the Chargers in January, 16 days after leading Michigan to its first national championship since 1997.

Harbaugh has never held a head-coaching job outside the state of California or his alma mater.

Yet, although living in an RV is not typical of a football coach, he is not the only member of the Chargers' staff currently doing so.

'It’s been great. Just being myself. I always wanted to do that (and live in an RV),' Harbaugh said. 'It worked out great. I’m 100 feet from (Chargers offensive coordinator) Greg Roman, who has a really, really good RV.'

'In the RV world, I’m not as fancy. My Ford Motorcoach hits me just right,' Harbaugh added. 'It’s been awesome. Yeah, it’s been really good. I go back there, it’s a good time to think. It’s just been great.'

'Now that’s coming to an end — happily coming to an end — because my family is coming to California,' Harbaugh said. 'They’re all here on this trip, and we’re all going to California together. We’ll be moving into our rental house, and that’s even better.'

Per Harbaugh, his brother-in-law drove an RV to California for him to live in.

Although Harbaugh does not mention him by name, his sister, Joani, is married to former college basketball coach Tom Crean.
