A wedding guest was mortified when she accidentally wore the same dress as the bridesmaids - leaving the bride very cheesed off.

Taylor Fogarty, from Florida, splashed out $100 on a floor-length pastel blue dress for a spring wedding in New Jersey.

But the makeup artist was left red-faced when she watched the bridal party walk down the aisle and to her horror realised she was wearing exactly the same dress as the bridesmaids.

The 28-year-old said her stomach was in knots throughout the day due to the 'cringeworthy' blunder and that she was 'dying inside' when a fellow guest brought it up at the buffet table.

Taylor shared a video of the blunder on TikTok with the caption 'my Roman Empire is the time I showed up to a wedding in the same dress as the bridesmaids' - which has now racked up more than 1.9 million views.

Taylor said: 'As soon as the bridesmaids started walking down the aisle I realised.

'I immediately started going bright red and my stomach was in knots. I just got so uncomfortable I wanted to leave, I fully couldn't enjoy myself.

'I didn't talk to the bridesmaids, I approached the bride at the reception and apologised. I was so embarrassed I felt like I had to say something.

'She played it off like she didn't really mind but I could tell she felt some type of way about it.

'It was very, very awkward. I had met her prior but we weren't close at all.

'I brought it up with anyone I talked to at the wedding because I was so embarrassed.

'An older man said something about it when I was getting food at the buffet. I just walked away dying inside.

'It's my Roman Empire because I think about it often. It makes me cringe.'

Taylor was referring to the TikTok trend where women ask the men in their life how often they 'think about the Roman Empire' - with answers generally being surprisingly often.

Her equivalent is now the unfortunate wedding dress saga - and it has clearly played on her mind.

Many social media users admitted they could relate to Taylor's experience: 'This happened to me twice as a plus 1, while another said: 'How was she supposed to know what the bridesmaid will wear.'

But others thought Taylor was to blame for the mishap: 'That's a literal bridesmaid dress';

'Girl that is straight out of David's Bridal, what were you thinking';

'This is why I ask the bride what color the bridesmaids are wearing.'

In a follow-up video Taylor can be heard saying her dress, which she bought from Lulus, 'kind of does look like a bridesmaid's dress'.

However she says it's a 'lesson learned' and that she'll 'definitely be finding out the bridesmaids' dress colour' for future weddings.

Taylor said: 'It definitely does look like a bridesmaid's dress looking back at it.

'There was absolutely no dress code specified. Whenever I wear blue it always brings out my eyes, that colour just suits me well.

'Maybe I shouldn't have gone with a floor length dress but I wasn't thinking.

'Future weddings that I go to I'll definitely make sure to ask about the colours.

'Lots of people in the comments were saying the same thing happened to them which definitely made me feel better.'

'There are people saying that I should've asked. I don't really know if anyone would have asked that.'
