The NFL announced Tuesday the Philadelphia Eagles 2024 season opener taking place in Brazil will stream exclusively on Peacock.

Philadelphia has been confirmed for the second game of the NFL season, the night after the Super Bowl-champion Chiefs host the inaugural game of the season.

The Brazil game will take place on Friday, September 6, marking the first opening-week game for the NFL to take place on that day of the week in over 50 years.

The Eagles opponent for the game has yet to be determined, but with the NFL's international schedule and regular practices for slating games, the other team playing in Brazil can be heavily narrowed, with Green Bay and Cleveland being likely contenders.

NFL fans did not take kindly to the news of a season opener for two teams, and the second game of the year, being placed on a streaming service.

Although fans of both the Eagles and their opponents will have the game broadcast on their local NBC affiliates, the rest of the world must resort to streaming it on Peacock.

'The decision to make the Brazil game the season opener was bad enough, now we're putting the game behind a paywall? The NFL needs to be abolished,' one football fan said on social media.

'I can't wait for Hulu and Netflix to get in on the action so that watching your NFL team play requires a subscription to YouTube TV, Peacock, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Netflix,' another NFL fan stated.

'Bold strategy of the NFL putting the first ever game in Brazil NOT ON NATIONAL TV,' a social-media message said.

'This is so dumb. So unbelievably dumb,' another fan stated, seemingly speaking on behalf of many other NFL followers.

Peacock also had the exclusive rights to the Chiefs-Dolphins AFC Wild Card round playoff game last season, which also angered fans hoping to get a glimpse of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.

The NFL is not likely to put a divisional matchup as its second game of the season, making the other possible opponents for the Eagles a short list.

The Steelers and Falcons could also play in Brazil if the league's rumored top choices of the Browns and Packers fall through.

The game will take place at Corinthians Arena, home to Brazilian top-tier soccer team SC Corinthians. The venue was also a hosting stadium for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, including the semifinal between Argentina and The Netherlands.

By playing a game in Brazil, the NFL will have played a regular-season game or a preseason game in five of the seven continents on Earth, with Africa and Antarctica being the exceptions.
