Fritz Wepper has died at the age of 82 in Munich, Germany, it was reported on Wednesday.
He passed away 'peacefully' while in hospice at a facility after a long illness, his wife Susanne Kellermann told German newspaper Bild.
The German star was best known for working with Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Marisa Berenson in the classic 1972 movie Cabaret.
Fritz delivered a heartfelt performance as a German Jew named Fritz Wendel who wanted to be a gigolo is Bob Fosse’s Oscar-winning movie.
His character also pined for rich Jewish heiress Natalia Landauer, who was played by model turned actress Marisa Berenson. Later Fritz and Natalia are married by a rabbi.

The Fosse movie was set in Berlin in 1931.
It was about an American cabaret singer Sally Bowles (Minnelli) who meets British academic Brian Roberts (York), who is finishing his university studies.
Despite Brian's confusion over his sexuality, the pair become lovers.
But the arrival of the wealthy and decadent playboy Maximilian von Heune (Helmut Griem) complicates matters for them both.
This love triangle plays out against the rise of the Nazi party and the collapse of the Weimar Republic.
Wepper had a long and busy career that included other hits.
He was on the popular crime-solving series Derrick, which aired from 1974 until 1998.

He played Detective Sergeant Harry Klein who worked hard to solve crimes.
He was also in the 2001 TV-movie Murder on the Orient Express starring Alfred Molina, Meredith Baxter, Leslie Caron and Peter Strauss.
In Germany, his many TV credits include Der Kommissar, For Heaven’s Sake and High Society Murder.

In 1959 he as in the classic movie The Bridge about teens fighting in Germany which also starred Michael Hinz.
Another standout was 1983's The Last Battle from Luc Besson about a post-apocalyptic future where no one is able to speak, the few remaining humans fight over resources in order to survive.
Wepper is survived by his wife Susanne as well as his daughters Sophie and Filippa.
