Six people slashed and five are arrested at NYC charter school as huge police presence surrounds the school

Six people - including five students and a security guard - were slashed and five have been arrested at a New York City charter school.

Police responded to a call at approximately 12:43 pm on Wednesday afternoon, where they found six injured people at New Dawn Charter High School II at 89-25 161st St. in Jamaica, Queens. 

A fight reportedly broke out in the cafeteria on Wednesday, the Gothamist reported.

Officers discovered at least five students who were slashed, according to a Citizen app alert. Two had cuts on their hands and another in the face when police arrived at the scene. 

A security guard who was injured reportedly tried to break up the fight. A teacher also took a knife from one of the students, according to the Citizen report. 

The victims were transported to the hospital for treatment for minor cuts. They are currently in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing. The NYPD did not immediately respond to the DailyMail.com's request for comment.
