Do you think you’d be able to tell the difference between a designer lookalike that costs thousands of pounds less than its more expensive counterpart?
Surely you’d be able to spot a real £2190 Burberry trench from a £50 copycat? Or maybe a Bottega Veneta handbag that costs £2150 verses a £27 high street version?
Well, it’s harder than it seems, as a viral social media series has proved.
I’m the editor in chief of fashion and beauty social publisher @eliza.co.uk and we’ve amassed more than 100 million views on our ‘guess which outfit is more expensive’ series which has left TikTok and Instagram users scratching their heads when asked to tell the outfits apart.
The premise is simple, eliza.co.uk style outfits with near-identical items, but one look is high end and the other is made up of high street pieces. We then go out on the street and ask passers-by if they can spot the affordable version.

It’s why we’re such fans of dupes at Eliza. You may think high street fashion could never be as good as the expensive designs they take inspiration from, but we set out to show you don’t have to spend a fortune to look and feel your best.
In fact, we’ve styled 23 pairs of outfits over the last six months since launching the series, and the saving on the high street versions totals a whopping £70,000.
Our best finds include a Bottega Veneta Sardine bag that costs 17 times more than the JW Pei dupe we sourced. A lookalike of a 16 Arlington dress worn by Hailey Bieber that is 90% cheaper than the OG, and a similar version of the cult £635 Gucci loafers that cost just £19.
Don’t believe us? Take a look at some of our videos below and see if you can spot the dupe.
