USWNT player Korbin Albert came under criticism Thursday after sharing an anti-LGBTQ+ social media post to her TikTok

The 20-year-old had previously shared a Christian sermon to the account, which discussed how being gay and 'feeling transgender' is wrong. The posts resurfaced this week, sparking backlash led by US soccer legend Megan Rapinoe

The retired player shared a post to her Instagram story addressed to 'the people who want to hide behind "my beliefs"' telling them to 'wake TF up!'

Rapinoe did not specifically name Albert in her Instagram story, but it's widely believed that she was talking about those posts, causing the rising star to issue an apology.

Here, DailyMail.com takes a look at who the young soccer star behind the controversy is...

Who is Korbin Albert?

Korbin Albert is a professional soccer player, who rose up the USA ranks from the youth setup.

Born in Grayslake, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, Albert played for Eclipse Select SC - a soccer club for boys and girls in the area - which first saw her gain prominence amongst the USYNT player pool.

Albert, the youngest of six children, hails from an athletic family with her mom, Janet, an All-American in track and field at Iowa.

Two of her four brothers play collegiate soccer, DJ at the University of Cincinnati and Keaton at Indiana Wesleyan, while sister Teagan plays soccer and is a diver at Olivet Nazarene.

What are Korbin Albert's beliefs?

Based on her social media activity, Albert is a Christian. Despite attending a Catholic institution, it is unclear if Albert herself is Catholic as Notre Dame accepts all faiths.

The now-deleted posts that Albert shared were re-posts of a Christian worship space discussing how being gay and 'feeling transgender' is wrong.

She has posted some similar content on her profile before - including a now-deleted post on her TikTok account from Fourth of July weekend showing her family and saying 'their pronouns are U.S.A.'

She was named as part of the nationwide freshmen Best XI while also being named third-team All-ACC during her first season in 2021

In her second and final season in 2022, she was named a first-team All-American and All-ACC selection.

Albert was also named the ACC's Midfielder of the Year and was the first Irish player to be shortlisted a finalist for the Hermann Trophy - the award given to the best collegiate player in the country - since 2010.

Who does Korbin Albert play for?

The 20-year-old is currently plying her trade across the Atlantic, playing for French side, Paris Saint-Germain.

After two seasons with the Fighting Irish, Albert left Notre Dame in January 2023 to sign with PSG.

After playing in eight games last season, she has started eight and has been subbed on in six of the Parisian's 17 Division 1 Feminin games this season.

Having cemented herself as a regular in the starting lineup, she has also featured in all seven of PSG's Champions League games this year.

Albert is versatile enough to play any midfield position and is deployed across the field by PSG.
