A mother-of-two has revealed how she was left vomiting and unable to breath after smoking toad venom as a 'miracle cure' while on a romantic getaway to Mexico.
Accredited therapist Samantha Gonzalez, 37, was left scared for her life after 'speed-toading', the bizarre practice of smoking a potent hallucinogenic drug made from toad venom through a pipe.
She and her husband travelled to Mexico to try the drug after watching a documentary that claimed the substance could heal deep psychological issues, including addiction and anxiety.
But the Michigan therapist revealed she had a much worse experience than she was expecting.
She told the Sun: 'I had three rounds of the medicine. The first round I immediately felt bars on my chest.

The substance is most often made with venom from the Colorado River Toad
'I felt terrified. A lot of times what happens is you become aware of your ego, so your judgement of yourself and other people. It was very, very scary.'
She said she was sat in a tent in the centre of Tulum, where hits of Bufo Alvarius, the psychoactive substance, can cost up to $250, and most often made with venom from the Colorado River Toad.
The people running the 'ritual' sat her down in the dark tent that had little else but a blanket and a speaker to play calming sounds.
Once she had her first hit, she immediately began to feel sick.
But the facilitator told her that she should smoke again, leading to her blacking out and feeling nauseous once again.
Instead of making her feel safe, she was brusquely shunted out of the tent, and her husband was taken in to have his turn.
'It felt very rushed and, after my second round, which actually I don't even remember, I remember feeling nauseous', adding that she was worried that her husband was having an 'amazing experience' without her and that she would be 'left behind.'
She immediately went to a different tent and had a third hit, which is when her trip went completely downhill.
'I immediately blacked out the third round. I started throwing up,' she said.
'I also felt like I was purging I was making these awful noises. I think I was just purging stuff inside of me.
'Whether it was emotion or actual physical stuff, I don't know. When I woke up after about 20 minutes I just felt like extremely weak.
'I felt like I was done - like I had relief of like "it worked, I can relax".'
Despite her terrifying experience, she said it brought her closer to her partner, and has allowed her to stop using her anti-depressants.
She concluded: 'If I were to recommend this for somebody, I would recommend something where you get to spend the whole day with a facilitator.'
