A drunk-driving woman attempted to hide a bottle of wine between her legs after she crashed her car, as officers extinguished flames, broke through her sunroof, and pulled her from a flipped vehicle to save her life.

Alka Bharwaj, a Georgia resident, was trapped in her burning, overturned vehicle in the front yard of a residence in Johns Creek earlier this month.

The fiery crash was captured on bodycam footage released by the Johns Creek Police Department on Thursday.

Officers rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire before smashing the sunroof of the Range Rover to rescue Bharwaj from the wreckage.

A dramatic scene unfolded as police recovered an open bottle of alcohol wedged between her legs while Bharwaj lay on the ground, refusing to move.

It remains unclear how Bharwaj's car was flipped over and caught fire, but police body-worn cameras captured the inferno and thick, black smoke filling the air.

An officer can be seen running to the scene and using a fire extinguisher to put out the flames as he says, 'Your car is on fire.'

'Ma'am, I'm going to hit your sunroof, okay? I need you to stay as far away as you can. Can you go to the backseat?'

As the officer asked repeatedly, Bharwaj, who was trapped in her SUV, can be seen shaking her head and waving at the officers.

The officer then smashed the sunroof and cut through metal and glass to reach Bharwaj, saying, 'Are you away from the glass? Stay away from it please.'

During the rescue, the officer cut himself on broken glass, as his hands can be seen bleeding in the video.

He asked Bharwaj, 'Are you okay?' to which she replied, 'I don't know,' appearing confused about the situation.

'Your car is on fire. I need you to get out of your car if you can. Can you come out please? Are you able to come through' the officer asked.

'Is my door open?' Bharwaj asked.

'Ma'am, you are on the side of your vehicle. You have to come through the roof,' the officer explained.

'We will take your hands and pull you out. Your car is exploding and we need to get you out of the vehicle,' another officer joined the efforts and said.

Bharwaj didn't seem to understand the instruction, as she repeated, 'Can we get the door open?'

'No, Ma'am. You are on the side of the vehicle. You are going through the roof ok?' one officer said.

It took officers a few minutes to finally extract Bharwaj from the car, as she lay on the ground, refusing to move.

'Come on, we need to get you away from the vehicle,' the officer said, then recovering a bottle of alcohol from between her legs.

'What it this? Oh dear,' he can be heard saying.

Bharwaj was later arrested and charged with DUI, reckless driving and open container, according to the police department.

Social media users, outraged by the woman's behavior, expressed their gratitude to the courageous officers after watching the video.

'Hope the officer heals quickly and we thank him for his sacrifice and dedication to our community,' a user who lives nearby wrote.

She said that three properties were damaged by the crash, which happened at a school bus drop off time in the neighborhood.

'This could have been a very tragic situation...I hope this woman understands what rock bottom is and I am grateful no one else was hurt,' she wrote.

Another user wrote: 'Thank you for your service and putting your own safety at risk despite the lack of concern by this driver.'
