Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac took to social media to blast the White House for celebrating Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter Sunday - before walking his comments back when he realized it always falls on March 31.
Isaac, 26, took to Twitter on Saturday to decry President Joe Biden's proclamation of International Transgender Day of Visibility on the same day as one of the most important holidays in Christianity.
'They want you to hate! This helps no one and only promotes division,' Isaac tweeted. 'They know exactly what they are doing...
'We should be angry but shouldn't lose the spirit of what tomorrow means! Don't lose focus. Because He is risen there is hope for all.'
Nearly an hour later, Isaac realized that the holiday has been celebrated on the exact same day each year - leading to him publishing a retraction.
Jonathan Isaac retracted criticism of Joe Biden for recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility
Isaac was initially upset by the President recognizing the holiday - which shares Easter Sunday
But he realized Trans Day of Visibility is every March 31 and retracted the criticism publicly
'In the name of fairness Biden did recognize the day last year when it didn’t fall on Esther [Easter]!,' Isaac wrote.
'That’s important, and to me, releases the administration from the allegation on intentionality! Instead of deleting the tweet like it never happened this is my good faith retraction lol.
'The message is the same. Keep focused on what Resurrection Sunday Is all about. Christ defeating sin and death for all people who would believe.'
Transgender Day of Visibility has been celebrated on March 31 for a number of years to help promote the elimination of violence and discrimination based on gender identity and to also platform trans people to advocate for themselves.
