They've played college basketball on an aircraft carrier before, so why not play college football on an aircraft carrier next?
Florida Atlantic University announced on Monday that their upcoming game against in-state rivals South Florida will be played in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on a Naval vessel.
Unfortunately, despite how amazing this sounds, it is of course April Fools Day and many fans of the game were fooled into thinking this was actually happening.
Reactions from Twitter ranged from surprise and laughs at the joke - to those crunching the numbers to see if a college football game on the ocean could be possible.
'We math'd this out and it would actually work (April 1 notwithstanding),' the college football fan account Sickos Committee wrote. 'Some tight sidelines, but if you're not worried about someone plunging into the water, you'd be ok.'
In an April Fools joke, Florida Atlantic announced they'd be playing a college football game against their cross-state rivals South Florida in the Atlantic Ocean on an aircraft carrier
Fans got fooled by the joke and reacted by wondering if it was possible for the game to happen
'I know the date, but I wish this was true,' another account wrote.
'It'd be amazing if tomorrow this post stayed up and they confirmed this was true,' wrote another.
'I know this is an April Fools joke but like, there's gotta be ONE carrier big enough to make this a reality,' wrote another user.
While this is obviously an April Fools prank, believe it or not, the United States Navy does in fact have an aircraft carrier that's big enough to hold a football field.
The USS Gerald R. Ford is the largest aircraft carrier in the world at 1,092 feet (333m) long and 256 ft (78m) wide on the flight deck.
Considering an American football field is 91.44m long and 48.8m wide, it could - in theory - hold the gridiron.
Now, there would obviously be concerns about how tight the sidelines are to the edge of the ship, but it is theoretically possible.
