After a troublesome few years for the Danish royals including 'affair' rumours and a rift over title changes, the family has entered a new chapter following the accession of King Frederik X to the throne in January.

However, as King Frederik, Queen Mary and their childrenn headed off on their holiday over the Easter break, fans speculated someone within the family had not been present as the flag remained raised over Amelienborg Palace - meanng a senior royal was in residence.

As fans were sent into a frenzy over the mystery, many revisited King Frederik's night out with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova in Madrid last autumn which sparked rumours of an 'affair' around the world.

But as the Danish royal family still appears to be bogged down by the rumours, mother-of-two Genoveva seems to be rebuilding her life as she returns to social media and prepares to make her TV comeback in Spain.

The socialite, 47, has posted inspirational messages on Instagram about gratitude and inner peace, plus wholesome photos stressing the importance of family and her loved ones as she moves on from the scandal which rocked the Danish monarchy.

Genoveva was spotted out with King Frederik last November as the pair enjoyed dinner at a flamenco restaurant in Madrid until the early hours of the morning, Spanish magazine Lecturas reported.

Photos of the pair out in the Spanish capital city sparked rumours of an affair, which Genoveva strenuously denied in a legal letter posted on Instagram.

After posting the denial, Genoveva sought solace in San Sebastian where the family of her ex-husband Cayetano Martínez de Irujo owned a property.

Spanish magazine Hola! reported the socialite stayed at the Palace of Arbaizenea, a property once owned by the Duchess of Alba and bequeathed to her son Cayetano Martínez de Irujo. The magazine reported Genoveva heads to San Sebastian any time she needs to 'disconnect' from public life.

However last month, after several months off of social media, Genoveva made her return to public life with a new post on her Instagram page - including two selfies with her fluffy pooch.

She wrote: 'I want to thank all the people who have cared about me this past year, those who have understood my absence and my silence, and those who have sent me messages of love and support.'

The socialite added: 'It's been a few months where I needed peace and quiet, but I'm already doing my best to slowly be able to return to my normal life and meet my work commitments.'

Since then, and as she prepares to star in reality show El Desafio, which translates to The Challenge, she has continued to post wholesome content on her Instagram page and her stories which promote gratitude for family and friends and mindfulness.

Two weeks ago, she posted another selfie with her pup, named Raj, and described him as her 'guardian angel'.

In another recent post, she shared a childhood snap of herself and her father when she was a toddler in which he is cradling her, with the caption: 'In Daddy's arms.'

Genoveva Casanova became the name on royal fans' lips last autumn after she was spotted out and about with the Danish royal, with Lecturas reporting they spent the afternoon together at El Retiro Park before heading to dinner at a traditional flamenco restaurant.

The Danish Palace refused to comment on rumours of an affair between Frederik and Genoveva, however the socialite strenuously denied any suggestion of a romantic relationship.

Since the photos first emerged, Queen Margrethe of Denmark announced her shock abdication, to be succeeded by King Frederik and Queen Mary, prompting speculation that her decision was a bid to save the family and give the royal couple a fresh start.

However rumours of cracks in the family appeared once again as royal fans noticed the flag flying high at Amelienborg Palace in Copenhagen while the family take their Easter holiday.

The royal flag only flies when the King, Queen or Crown Prince is at home - leading royal watchers to suspect the family holiday didn't go as planned.

Many assumed Prince Christian was left behind, perhaps by choice.

'All families experience that when the children reach a certain age, they don't always want to be with their parents,' a local wrote.

'It was maybe an idea to read the rules that our King and Crown Prince are allowed to travel on the same plane they have never been allowed to because of safety,' said another.

Queen Margrethe's regent flag was also flying, making many speculate it was either Queen Mary or her son Prince Christian at home - as there would be no need for the regent to take charge if King Frederik was present.
