The Milwaukee Brewers placed reliever, Trevor Megill, on a seven-day concussion list after passing out and hitting his head while recovering from a case of food poisoning.

On Wednesday, Brewers manager Pat Murphy revealed that Megill suffered food poisoning on Saturday during Milwaukee's series against the New York Mets.

While the food poisoning source remains a question, the concussion happened after the 6-foot-8 RHP returned to Milwaukee and banged his head on the ground after fainting.

'He ended up fainting in a phone store … fainted, fell on the ground, hit his head,' Murphy said. 'When he came to, he called our people and let them know. We evaluated him the next morning, and it was a concussion.'

After Megill joined the concussion list, the Brewers recalled JB Bukauskas from Triple-A Nashville to fill in his roster spot. Although the Brewers anticipated the need to call Bukauskas early in the season, they did not expect it to come from an off-field issue.

'This one's scary,' Murphy added. 'I guess he hadn't had much in his system.'

The pitcher spent a season with the Chicago Cubs and another with the Minnesota Twins before finding himself in Milwaukee last year. Megill had an ERA of 3.63 last year as the Brewers finished on top of the National League Central with a 92-70 record.

Milwaukee's season ended when they lost to Arizona in the wildcard.

Megill's injury is not the first of unique off-field mishaps in Major League Baseball. In 2004, Sammy Sosa sneezed so hard that he sprained a ligament in his lower back. Two years prior, Marty Cordova fell asleep in a tanning bed and burnt himself - causing him a few games after doctors advised him to stray from sunlight.

'He's doing OK,' said Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold. 'We want to be cautious with those types of things, for sure.'
