Firebrand Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has suggested House Speaker Mike Johnson is being 'blackmailed' and accused him of drastically changing his stances on key issues including abortion and the border.
Greene made the claim as she argues Johnson should be booted because he is no longer connected with what the Republican Party wants.
'Mike Johnson has made a complete departure of who he is and what he stands for, and to the point where people are literally asking, is he blackmailed?' she said in an interview on Tucker Carlson Uncensored.
'What is wrong with him because he's completely disconnected with what we want?'
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene suggested that Speaker Mike Johnson is being 'blackmailed' because she claims there's not other explanation for his policy stances changing so much in five months
Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) was elected House Speaker in October after Kevin McCarthy's ouster for working with Democrats to reach a bipartisan agreement and now the current speaker faces the same criticisms
MTG has launched a motion to vacate, an attempt to remove Johnson, after he reached a bipartisan spending deal to avoid a government shutdown.
It comes only five months after former Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was voted out as Speaker by his party.
'I can't comprehend, Tucker, what radically changes a man,' the congresswoman said when the former Fox News host asked if she agrees that Johnson might be facing blackmail.
'He completely changed who he was,' MTG added. 'We don't know who Mike Johnson is anymore.'
The Georgia lawmaker listed a series of policies that she feels Johnson has flip-flopped on after he was elected Speaker in October.
At the top of the list is abortion.
'So Mike Johnson is pro-life,' Greene noted to Carlson. 'And the second part of the omnibus, just less than two weeks ago, he funded full-term abortion clinics, full-term abortion clinics. He funded the trans agenda on children.'
'I mean, how does that even happen from a Christian conservative Republican speaker?' she lamented.
MTG told former Fox News host Tucker Carlson on his show that Johnson abandoned his stances on abortion, the border and funding for certain agencies after he struck a bipartisan spending bill to avoid a government shutdown
'He did nothing for the southern border and did nothing to secure the border,' Greene continued. ' It's the number one issue in the world.'
She also complained about other provisions in the bipartisan bill, including funding a new building for the FBI and giving full funding to the agency as well as the Department of Justice.
Hardliner Republicans aligned with former President Donald Trump, which includes MTG, are vehemently against FBI and DOJ funding because they claim the agencies have become completely politically motivated on the left-side of the aisle.
