I tried a viral energy healing trend, expecting to confirm my suspicions that 'Spinal Energetics' with Dr Sarah Jane Perri was yet another overhyped social media fad.
I was wrong. I lay down on the table and was reduced to a snotty, sobbing mess in minutes.
Energy healing is a form of alternative medicine, based on the belief that a vibration flows through the human body.
Healers using practices such as Reiki claim to use the body's own energy source to 'fix' problems from the inside out - breaking through emotional blocks.
They assert that ridding the body of these blocks can assist with physical problems such as weight gain, migraines and pain as well as easing emotional trauma.
I found Dr Sarah's method of energy healing - which has gone viral - completely mindblowing.
Award-winning Chiropractor and Counsellor, Dr Sarah Jane is the Founder and Creator of transformative healing modality, Spinal Energetics
The first time I heard about Dr Sarah, a 37-year-old Melbourne-born practitioner, was on TikTok.
Her viral videos had popped up in my explore section - but I had dismissed them as TikTok trickery.
Her videos show her patients moving around on the table as if controlled by invisible strings.
So I thought 'it must be fake'.
And I silently nodded along to comments on the videos claiming the patients must be paid actors wriggling around as she clicked and puffed for a pretty pay cheque.
Then I was invited to try it for myself.
I left a bit over an hour later feeling exhausted but lighter, with a slight headache and a tear stained face.
A month on and I still feel like something shifted inside me as she moved her hands around my body, clicking, whistling, encouraging and releasing me.
A fairly happy-go-lucky, optimistic woman, I rarely cry.
Especially in front of strangers or in a professional setting.
I expected some light twitching at the most, as I have experienced during Reiki sessions over the years.
I had seen videos where the people being healed by Dr Sarah move around like they are connected to strings - but I didn't think it would happen to me
The experience was mind blowing - here I am pictured after getting myself to a seated position while Dr Sarah worked around me
It all unfolded so fast.
She pressed play on her phone and the meditative music started to flow through the room.
I felt myself slipping into a dreamlike state, my thoughts slowed, and I was left to sit in absolute stillness - suspended somewhere between asleep and awake.
I was intrigued when my muscles in my bottom, jaw, and throat started tweaking on their own in the first few seconds of the doctor doing her thing.
I was 'awake' enough to register the tweaks but not to stop them.
Minutes later the music began to swell and I felt my bottom lip begin to tremble.

Dr Sarah's voice then calmly told me we were about to 'go deeper' and just as it had begun my lip stopped shaking.
I was face down on the bed so couldn't see what she was doing.
But a video I filmed of the process showed her clicking fingers and blowing short breaths at and away from my body.
The music swelled and and I started bawling my eyes out.
As Dr Sarah moved her hands above my body I felt compelled to straighten out to somehow push more tears out.
The music swelled and I broke down, bawling my eyes out
They poured from me in a steady stream and I worked my way into a sitting position.
Drifting in and out of the reality, I almost had no comprehension of how I’d managed to sit with my legs straddling the bed.
Then the healer was behind me, pleading with me to let go. I felt myself move into her arms, lean back over her leg and let her hold me.
As I trusted her to keep me safe everything shifted. A laugh poured out of me.
It started as a nervous, singular chuckle and built up until I was almost roaring.
I felt like I was spiraling out of control inside my head before it finally made it out my mouth.
She doesn't touch her clients very much - despite being a trained chiropractor
I remember coming back to reality as I folded back forward and feeling very dizzy.
I felt ‘awake’ in windows from then.
Dr Sarah told me not to bend over when feeling sad but to breathe through the sadness, and to own it, proudly.
The sadness I had been swimming in earlier had been wiped clean with the roaring laughter. But splashes of sadness, anxiety and frustration remained.
Dr Sarah revealed I had been clearing some very old feelings, which had built up over the course of my life.
She warned I would be feeling like I’d run a marathon the next day.
And I did.
I lay like this for minutes, with my bottom in the air. I remember feeling an overwhelming wave of sadness wash over me before it 'ran out'
In fact my abs hurt for days after. I could barely laugh without remembering they were there and stressed.
But there was something weird about it.
The general aches and pains I feel as a 32-year-old had disappeared.
The niggle in my back from playing too many rounds of crack the egg on the trampoline with my kids vanished.
And as days went on I just felt better, clearer and more able to put up with disappointment, frustrations and exhausting moments which came my way.
Spinal Energetics is a relatively new modality, Dr Sarah explained.
She is a chiropractor with a background in psychology and developed it during the Covid lockdowns.
She had become interested in energy healing years before, which lead her to becoming a chiropractor.
Dr Sarah told FEMAIL she had an amazing experience where a niggling injury had been fixed without physical pressure - leading her to look into the connection between the body and mind.
She says she is simply reminding the body what to do when she does her work
'In Spinal Energetics the focus often extends beyond ‘treating’ symptoms, to addressing the root causation of emotional or physical challenges. By delving into the underlying reasons and exploring the body’s responses,' she explained.
'By working with the root cause we are acknowledging that symptoms may be often manifestations of deeper experiences. Rather than merely alleviating surface level discomfort.'
She says we have 'forgotten' how to heal using these methods - that our bodies naturally 'know' what to do we just have to stop blocking it.
The healer currently teaches others how to use her techniques - with a goal of helping people connect with themselves and heal from the inside out the world over
Before working on me Dr Sarah had poked and prodded me - letting me know where in my body trauma was sitting, and what it was related to.
Some things resonated others didn't.
She then did an arm pull - something she warned could be excruciating and often felt like an electric shock.
She explained this shows is how close we are to letting those negative things overflow.
I barely felt a thing, which she said was 'quite rare' and showed I had been doing work on myself for sometime.
Dr Sarah also pointed out that considering how much tightness I’d held in certain parts of my body this came as a pleasant surprise to her.

After such a profound experience I would definitely book in, of my own accord, for further sessions and recommend it to family and friends.
