When it comes to favourite outfits, why not get a little extra wear down the generations?
This applies to royal mother-daughter pairings just as much as anyone else, including the late Queen and Princess Anne, Queen Mary of Denmark and Princess Isabella and Queen Letizia of Spain and daughter Princess Leonor.
A number of royal women have created memorable twinning moments over recent years, as these pictures show.
Queen Elizabeth II and Anne, Princess Royal
Princess Anne wore her mother's purple check coat in February
Anne, Princess Royal, 73, paid homage to her mother as she sported Queen Elizabeth II's purple checked coat in February.
Carrying out royal engagements in Nottingham, Anne paired the coat with a corresponding violet dress and knee-high boots from Fairfax and Favor.
In 2006, the Queen wore the coat as she embarked on the Hebridean Princess at Port Ellen, Scotland, for a week-long cruise around the Western Isles with her family to celebrate her 80th birthday.
It was a poignant decision by Anne to keep her late mother close, amid a turbulent time for the royals following King Charles' cancer diagnosis.
Carole Middleton and Catherine, Princess of Wales
Kate debuted this ME+EM dress in 2021 before her mother Carole borrowed it in 2022
The Princess of Wales is described asone of the world's most stylish women so it's no wonder Carole Middleton took inspiration from her daughter's wardrobe.
Attending Royal Ascot in 2022, Carole, 69, wore an eye-catching ME+EM silk shirt dress, featuring a dipped hemline and pleated detailing.
Kate, 42, previously chose the mid-length design for afternoon tea with five-year-old cancer patient, Mila Sneddon, at Holyroodhouse in May 2021.
The Princess later wore the dress to the Chelsea Flower Show, in 2022, completing the look with trusty Castaner espadrille wedges.
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and Princess Beatrice
Princess Beatrice and her mother Sarah Ferguson wore the same Amanda Wakeley dress two months apart
Princess Beatrice showed off a sky blue Amanda Wakeley dress at Royal Ascot in June 2017.
Beatrice, 35, oozed sophistication, teaming her colour-block dress with a Nerida Fraiman wide-brimmed hat and a Chanel bag.
Her mother, Sarah Ferguson, 64, wore the same dress, a mere two months later, at the King George VI Weekend at Ascot Racecourse.
Princess Caroline of Monaco and Princess Alexandra of Hanover
Princess Alexandra of Hanover wore her mother Caroline's vintage Chanel dress from the autumn/winter 1990 couture collection
Princess Alexandra of Hanover, 24, made headlines when she attended the Chanel Haute Couture spring/summer 2024 show, wearing a little black dress brimming with history.
The monochrome tweed mini had bee worn by her mother, Princess Caroline of Monaco, 67, back in 1990.
Originating from the autumn/winter 1990 couture collection, this frock incorporated a contrasting collar, scalloped stitching and double-breasted front, featuring buttons painted with a silhouette of Coco Chanel.
Princess Caroline of Monaco and Charlotte Casiraghi
Charlotte Casiraghi borrowed her mother's dress 17 years after Caroline of Monaco wore it
Princess Alexandra of Hanover's half-sister, Charlotte Casiraghi, is also known to raid her mother's wardrobe.
For the 2017 Rose Ball in Monte-Carlo, Monaco, Charlotte, 37, selected another stunning Chanel dress belonging to Princess Caroline.
Hailing from the autumn/winter 1996 couture collection, the semi-sheer design incorporated a plunging V-neckline and figure-skimming silhouette.
This dress was a favourite of Caroline's, who has worn it on at least three occasions, including Monaco National Day in 1996 and the Nijinsky Award Winners Event in 2000.
Queen Mary of Denmark and Princess Isabella
Princess Isabella of Denmark borrowed her mother's Max Mara three-piece suit for her confirmation in 2022
Princess Isabella of Denmark celebrated her confirmation in style by wearing her mother Queen Mary's white trouser suit.
Isabella, who is third in line to the Danish throne, accessorised the Max Mara three-piece with a diamond and pearl brooch. It was a gift from her grandmother, Queen Margrethe, on her Christening day in 2007 and once belonged to Queen Alexandrine.
The 16-year-old Princess also borrowed two 'Pacific' rings by Dulong Fine Jewellery from her mother's collection.
Queen Mary, 52, wore the outfit in May 2017, during a trip to Stockholm, and May 2019, while visiting South Korea.
Queen Silvia of Sweden and Princess Victoria
Crown Princess Victoria wore her mother's vintage co-ord 39 years later after the Swedish monarch
Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden gave her mother's vintage co-ord a contemporary spin in 2017.
Queen Silvia, 80, initially showcased the striped yellow ensemble during a visit to Moscow in 1978.
The Queen accessorised with a pearl necklace and matching earrings, completing the look with black mid-heeled pumps.
In a stroke of genius, Victoria, 46, tied the scarf that was originally bound around her mother's hat into a pussybow necktie.
She elevated the outfit with a scarlet clutch and corresponding heels from Rizzo.
Queen Letizia of Spain and Princess Leonor
Queen Letizia appeared to borrow a Dándara dress from her daughter's closet in 2022
Crown Princess Leonor of Spain's Dándara dress seemed to catch her mother's eye.
Leonor, 18, debuted the patterned shirt dress while attending the Maria Pages performance at the Teatros de El Canal in Madrid, Spain, in June 2022.
The following month, Queen Letizia, 51, donned the breezy design to a meeting on mental health at the UNICEF headquarters.
Both royals styled their midi dresses with espadrille wedges - Letizia opting for a leather version by Uterque.
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands and Princess Alexia
Princess Alexia of the Netherlands wore her mother's Oscar De La Renta dress for her first solo engagement in September 2023
Princess Alexia of the Netherlands proved she has inherited her mother Queen Maxima's fashion prowess when she carried out her first solo engagement in September 2023.
The 18-year-old royal, who is second in line to the Dutch throne behind her sister Princess Catharina-Amalia, christened the Vox Alexia, a ship by Dutch manufacture Van Oord, in Rotterdam.
Alexia wore Maxima's, 52, cold-shoulder ruffled wool dress by Oscar De La Renta.
The Queen previously donned the design at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), held in the World Forum at The Hague, Netherlands, in 2019.
Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Princess Estelle
Princess Estelle of Sweden pinched her mother's £200 H&M tulle dress for the Jubilee performance of the Royal Opera at Drottningholm Palace Theatre in 2023
In September 2023, Sweden's future queen, Princess Estelle, made a sartorial statement at an opera performance celebrating her grandfather King Carl XVI Gustaf's Jubilee.
Eagle-eyed followers woud have recognised the 11-year-old's tulle dress as a high street creation, previously sported by her mother, Crown Princess Victoria.
Part of the brand's autumn/winter 2020 Conscious collection, the £200 design is crafted from layers of wispy lime tulle with a draped bodice and ankle length.
Victoria, 46, has worn the dress on a number of occasions, including an official royal visit to Amsterdam in The Netherlands in 2022.
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and Lady Louise
Lady Louise wore the Peter Pilotto dress seven years after it first appeared on Sophie
The Duchess of Edinburgh had wrapped up in her navy Roland Mouret coat on five instances before her daughter, Lady Louise, decided to follow suit.
Offering a fresh twist on the classic trench, the 'Millington' double-wool crepe coat had flared sleeves, distinctive lapels and a knee length.
The duo chose varying accessories:
Sophie, 59, opted for a Jane Taylor London straw hat and Manolo Blahnik satin pumps, while Louise, 20, selected a Jane Taylor London trilby and nude suede heels.
The Duchess of Edinburgh wore her daughter Lady Louise's beret during the Easter Mattins Service at St George's Chapel
It seems that Sophie developed a fondness for her daughter's beret.
Attending this year's Easter Mattins Service at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, the Duchess was the picture of elegance in a purple coat and Lady Louise's hat.
It was a touching tribute to the 20-year-old, who was unable to attend the service.
