How America's aging hippies could save Biden - as election polls show president close or even AHEAD among senior voters amid shifting demographics

America's aging liberals could lend Joe Biden an unlikely boost in his re-election struggle.

The traditionally conservative voting bloc have been veering left in recent times, with the explanation determined to be a simple on - liberals are getting older.

According to analysis by the New York Times, longer life expectancies among women and college graduates - around six and eight years respectively - may turn the tide after millions of senior Republicans have died.

However, polls also suggest Biden may be losing significant support among young voters, with a new poll this month finding half of voters under 40 are looking to vote for a third-party candidate amid a surge for RFJ Jr.

Another poll from November 2023 also had Trump ahead of Biden among young voters under 35 by four points, compared to Biden's 26-point lead with the same age group ahead of the 2020 election.

Many of America's seniors now came of age during the cultural revolution and 'Summer of Love' periods, marking a shift in the traditionally conservative voting bloc

Many of America's seniors now came of age during the cultural revolution and 'Summer of Love' periods, marking a shift in the traditionally conservative voting bloc

The Times analysis noted that the 'Silent Generation' - those born from 1928 until the end of World War Two - were among the most conservative of modern history.

The voting bloc was the only one to turn further right by the nomination of Barack Obama in 2008, with a higher share opting for John McCain than for George W. Bush in 2004.

That same cohort are now at least 15 years older, with many of the staunch GOP voters since dying. In all, just 20 percent of the Silent Generation is alive today.

This demographic are also now made up of a considerably more liberal faction, as two traditional Democrat indicators - being a woman or a college graduate - tend to live longer.

Women, on average, live six years older than men, and college graduates live eight years longer than those without a degree.

Instead, many of those who came of age through the cultural revolution and 'Summer of Love' days are now 65+, dramatically shifting the voting intentions of a normally devout Republican group.

Now, the 'Boomer' generation - those born 1946 to 1964 - will make up more than 70 percent of seniors during the 2024 election.

When Obama was elected to the White House in 2008, this figure stood at zero percent.

In Obama's re-election against Mitt Romney in 2012, the impact the demographic changes could have on the 2024 election are even more apparent.

In 2012, Obama won the 'Baby Boomer' generation by two points, with 4.3 million Boomers aged 65+ at the time.

Today, that group stands at 27.6 million, which would handily give Obama a five-point cushion in the election.

Among the 'Greatest Generation' - those born from 1901 to 1927 - Romney won in 2012 by an easy seven points.

After many have since deceased while liberal-leaning seniors stood a better chance of survival, Obama would now win the generation by just under 1 percent, although the entire voting bloc is now made up of just 321,000 voters nationwide.

Because Biden won support from 48 percent of seniors in 2020, it is seen by analysts that the latest trends may work in his favor in 2024.

However, these trends have seemingly been countered by many younger voters under 50 veering to the right.

Ahead of the 2020 election, Biden held a 26-point lead among the same voting bloc, but the NBC poll found Trump held a four-point lead.

The same poll found that Trump was leading Biden in every single age group, except for seniors.

And this month, a new poll also found that half of young Americans under 40, or 47 percent, plan to vote for a third-party candidate

In total, more than a quarter of voters said they felt the same way.

Across all age groups, that would amount to 43 million voters willing to cross the box of a third-party candidate, based on the turnout in 2020.
