Virginia police have released startling dashcam footage of a street takeover that injured one officer and damaged a cruiser, as authorities continue to identify suspects from the attack.

Hundreds of people gathered for an illegal car meetup at a parking lot in the 6600 block of Electronic Drive in Springfield on March 31.

A Fairfax County police officer arrived on the scene and was met with an armed mob that swarmed her car.

Dashcam footage obtained by Fox News showed at least one person attempted to remove the license plate from the vehicle while others jumped on her cruiser and banged on the windows. Other footage showed a man hanging out of a car while holding a rifle.

'They've all got masks on. They're beating on my cruiser,' one officer said while calling for back up.

'Multiple people blocking my cruiser, banging on windows,' another officer said when they arrived on scene.

One officer who got out of their car was struck by a driver who was speeding away.

'I believe we narrowly escaped a line-of-duty death scenario of our own. Because one of our officers was surrounded by a bunch of masked, tough-guy-wannabe-thugs who surrounded her car, and acted in a criminal manner, in a way that I'll tell you is never going to happen again in Fairfax County,' Police Chief Kevin Davis said.

Police identified the driver as 18-year-old Ronal Urrea-Hernandez of Catonsville, Maryland, and have obtained a warrant for his arrest for felony hit and run, speed to elude and no operator's license.

Carlos A Martinez Jr., 18, was arrested at the scene and charged with reckless driving after he drove on the wrong side of the road and crashed into a police cruiser, authorities say.

Authorities have identified 20-year-old Dylan Heckard from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, because he posted a photo of himself holding up his middle finger to a police car at the incident.

They have obtained warrants to arrest him for abduction, assault on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice and wearing a mask in public.

Police have identified a 17-year-old from Arlington who they are not naming, and will be charged with disorderly conduct and abduction for jumping on the police cruiser and preventing her from leaving.

'So, what does that mean for residential and business communities? It means you didn't have any cops protecting your neighborhoods, your communities, your businesses because these criminals diverted all of our attention to handle an attack on one of our police officers,' Davis said.

Street takeovers involve rowdy crowds of people blocking roadways, disrupting traffic, or, in some cases, illegal street races.

Around 100 people were using all-terrain vehicles dangerously and causing dangerous conditions on the roadways in Hartford, Connecticut on March 30.

Five group members were taken into custody by the police, who also reportedly found and recovered a weapon, four ATVs, and one towed vehicle.

On March 16, a woman was hit by a car and thrown to the ground during a street takeover in Los Angeles.

Police estimated 50 cars were involved in that weekend's street takeover at the corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and West 63rd Street in the Hyde Park neighborhood.

The crowd was beginning to break up by the time officers arrived at around 3:30 am Saturday.

That morning, a Jeep was doused in gasoline and set ablaze in the middle of the intersection as another vehicle did donuts around it.

No injuries were reported and no arrests were made, officials said.
