A Texas family is demanding answers after their seventh grader came home from school with second-degree burns on her hands - allegedly from a punishment for laughing in class.

Caldwell Junior High's Caydence Wilson suffered the burns at the middle school, and her mom, Chloe Couch, shared her daughter's injuries Sunday morning in a post to social media.

The post was quickly shared by people perturbed by what they saw, with some of the images incredibly tough to look at.

KBTX spoke to both in-depth about what allegedly led to the burns, as the school issued a statement asserting it was investigating.

During the sit-down, Couch claimed she was not called or made aware of the situation, even after Caydence asked school staff if she could call her to bring home bandages.

'She tried to reach out to me, and it wasn't until she was on the bus ride home that she sent me those pictures of those blisters oozing,' Couch said of her daughter's injuries, which have already put a financial burden on the Caldwell family

'I'm a single mom of three kids,' she said. 'So I'm living paycheck to paycheck and making my ends meet how I can for my kids.

'I can't afford medical bills and medications and wraps that we're having to apply every four to six hours for the pain.'

Joined by Caydence, the mom went on to recall the harrowing hospital visit she and the child were forced to sit through, after the girl's softball coach allegedly forced her to do bear crawls on a blistering hot field.

'Having to stand beside her in the hospital and not being able to hold her hands because there are second-degree burn blisters on both hands - can't hold her hands and she's screaming and shouting - it was tragic,' Couch recalled.

Mentioning local cops, she said: 'I hope that they are made aware.'

Appearing stone-faced, the mom added: '[I hope] that nothing happens to any other kids because I would hate for it to not be taken care of and for someone else to be injured just as bad as Caydence was.'

When asked for a number rating, she categorized the pain as being a 10 out of 10, discomfort she's still feeling days later.

'I could feel my hands start to whelp and burn,' the girl said, recalling the alleged bear crawl under the hot Texas sun.

'I could feel the blisters burning on my hands,' she remembered, bearing bandages on her hands as alleged proof.

Not naming the coach she said handed out the punishment, she told KBTX: 'I told her [the turf was burning me], and she was like, 'You're OK. You're almost done. Just keep going.'

'But I wasn't really almost done,' Caydence continued. 'So, I kept going, and I got on my knees because I could feel [the blisters] push and pop.'

Still, she said, '[the coach was] like, 'No, you're fine. Keep going.''

But she and her mom say all was not fine, citing not only the second-degree burns sustained, but the accompanying - and excruciating - pain.

Caydence said of the burning sensation she felt before and after the blisters popped: 'Like burning pain, excruciating, it felt like a knife was stabbed into my lower palm.'

The Burleson County Sheriff's Office, meanwhile, confirmed it was investigating the incident, as the family consider taking legal action against the school district.

The taxpayer-funded body, known as the Caldwell Independent School District, issued a vague statement regarding the incident as Couch's Facebook post gained traction online.

'Caldwell ISD is aware of the Facebook post that circulated early this morning,' they told KBTX, as neither they nor cops named the staffer accused of the alleged infraction.

'We take any reports of incidents very seriously and are actively investigating the matter in accordance with our established protocols and procedures,' the update went on.

'Please be assured that appropriate actions will be taken based on the outcome of our investigation.'

'I'm a single mom of three kids,' Couch added of the financial burden Caydence's injuries have put on the family. 'So I'm living paycheck to paycheck and making my ends meet how I can for my kids'. She said she doesn't believe their apology, and is now considering legal action

During her interview,  Couch said she feels the statement is not sincere, and that it doesn't mean much to her or Caydence.

In the meantime, both investigations are allegedly underway, after Caydence said the incident happened after she and a friend laughed in one of their classes.

The principal told them they would undergo detention, and that they would then let their softball coach know about the situation. A round of 100 squats followed, as well as the aforementioned bear crawls.
