A woman who ditched her 'drunk' husband at the airport - after he was banned from boarding their plane for being too intoxicated - has defended her decision to jet off on vacation without him.
The anonymous traveler took to Reddit to open about about a recent incident in which her husband was barred from a flight, having spent some time at the airport enjoying drinks before she arrived.
'AITA for not deplaning with my husband after he was kicked off for being too drunk?' the woman, 28, wrote in the site' notorious r/AmItheA**hole forum about her husband, 'Adam,' 30.
She went on to describe that they are both the same ethnicity and share a 'home country' - although she speaks their native language much better than Adam does.
Adam's grandparents were the first to travel to their current country, so he has more family where they currently live.
A woman took to Reddit's r/AmItheA**hole forum after her husband got too drunk to board a plane en route to visit her father - and she left him at the airport instead of staying behind
'My home country is far so tickets are expensive and I took leave off from work for the trip so I don’t get off with Adam,' she reasoned of leaving him behind
As a result, the woman feels she's become 'close with his family' since they started dating, also putting in the 'effort' with his family to become so.
Meanwhile, the woman's parents are divorced, and around when she and Adam began dating, her dad moved back to their home country.
Making things even more tricky, her dad 'disapproves of Adam.'
She's further 'had fights with Adam in the past about how I feel I have made more of an effort with his family, and he hasn’t done the same for me.'
Adam not being as fluent in her parents' native language has also been a barrier to him connecting with the woman's side of the family.
'It was more apparent when my dad came to stay with us but in the lead up to the wedding, my dad stayed with us and it went fine,' she added.
In any case, there was clearly a lot riding on a trip she'd planned for she and Adam to visit her dad back in their native country.
While Adam had agreed to come, he did so reluctantly.
Commenters overwhelmingly agreed the woman was NTA - short for Not The A**hole
'I have been planing a trip to my home country to surprise my dad and asked Adam to come as well.
'He agreed and then balked when I said we were going to stay with my dad and made what I thought was a joke about having to drink before meeting him- I didn’t find it funny and Adam later apologised,' she narrated.
But apparently Adam hadn't really been joking.
On the day of their flight, Adam had gone ahead of time to the airport to check their bags, with the woman meeting him there.
To her horror, she'd found Adam had gotten hammered - so much so that the flight attendant wouldn't let him on the plane.
She then called her brother-in-law to take care of him, also leaving the brother-in-law's cell phone with the flight attendant for good measure.
And with that, she embarked on her journey to see her dad solo.
'My home country is far so tickets are expensive and I took leave off from work for the trip so I don’t get off with Adam,' she reasoned.
But Adam still felt hurt at the move.
'Adam is now upset with me, saying I left him in a situation where he was drunk and if roles were reversed he would have never left me alone when I was drunk but I don’t think that is fair,' she concluded, further asking if she was the a**hole in the situation.
Commenters almost unanimously deemed her NTA - short for Not The A**hole.'
'NTA. This man deliberately tried to ruin your time with your father because your father doesn’t think highly of him. Let me guess, your father picked up on Adam being immature, spiteful, selfish, and poor mannered.
'You need to ask yourself what someone who would do this to spite you brings to the table and why you stay with him,' one wrote.
A second responded, 'Bingo. A very clumsy attempt at sabotage right there. NTA.'
'Adam is a grown adult, who made a poor decision. Adam has to deal with the consequences, and if that means leaving him behind, so be it. Maybe next time when you and Adam plan a flight together, he will show up sober and you can enjoy your trip together. NTA,' a third expressed matter-of-factly.
'NTA … Dude made a conscious decision to get drunk. I'm sure if he were to suddenly become so ill that he couldn't fly you would have stayed with him. But this isn't something that just happened to him or something you did to him. He made a decision to do this to himself and had no one else to blame. Enjoy your visit with your dad!' echoed a fourth.
'Nta. if he’s accidentally getting too drunk before a plane ride at 30, he has a problem. if he did it on purpose, he is a problem. either way letting him disrupt your life so you can coddle his drunk a** solves nothing' yet another expressed.
