A 17-year-old has revealed his horror at the very awkward name his mother chose for his younger brother, admitting he has 'begged' her to change the youngster's unique moniker - because it's also used as a popular slang term for marijuana.

The unnamed teenager took to Reddit to express his concerns about his younger brother Zaza's name - as he revealed that his mother refused to pick a different moniker.

He says that it 'breaks' his heart to hear that his brother may grow up with that name as he asked for advice on how to convince his mom to change it.

On the Am I The A**hole subreddit, he questioned if he was in the wrong for hating the moniker.

The post was titled: 'Am I the a**hole? My mom wants to name my brother Zaza and it's f***ing me up inside.'

He explained further: 'I (m17) found out my mom is naming my brother Zaza and it breaks my heart that I'm powerless to help him. Everyone has told her this is an awful name and the only runner up is Azrael.'

The teenager then questioned if he was in the wrong for spending an 'hour' begging her to change his name.

He added: 'She sent an urban dictionary definition as justification. Am I the a**hole for spending an hour pleading with her to change his name? For clarification we're a white middle class American family and she knows it means weed. '

Indeed, according to Urban Dictionary, one definition of zaza is listed as 'Top tier weed.'

Not everyone agreed with the original poster, but dubbed him 'not the a**hole' or NTA. People flooded the comments section and claimed that the name was fine.

One person said: 'Not really, people kinda don't even say Zaza anymore already. By the time her kid is old enough to smoke weed it'll be forgotten.'

Someone else added: 'Wait how long has this been around? I'm a millennial and I have never heard this slang, I assumed it must be a Gen Z or Alpha thing.'

'Not the a**hole - I have never heard of Zaza being a slang word for weed until now and I'm a 30yo American weed smoker,' another wrote.

One user wrote: 'I've been smoking your whole life and I've never heard of it.'

A fifth added: 'What in the live laugh love. Not the a**hole but this is, admittedly, hilarious for now.'

'Isn't that the name of the bird in The Lion King? either way, it's a ridiculous name, especially with the weed connection. Get you and your family together to create an action plan, you can't be the only one that thinks naming the child after a semi-illicit narcotic is a good thing,' a sixth person weighed in.

'Not the a**hole, save your brother, this might be the most important thing you do for him.'

One user commented: 'Do people not realize that children grow into adults and eventually need to find a job? Do they want their kids to not succeed?'
