An axeman allegedly decapitated his father before kicking the severed head along the main road then throwing it at a passerby.
The crazed 46-year-old is said to have kicked the victim's head around as if it was a football on a main road running through his home town of Soto de Ribera near the city of Oviedo in Asturias.
Police believe he beheaded his father, aged 71, with an axe before using the same weapon to attack the vehicles of shocked motorists on the road.
One of the drivers who witnessed the macabre scene said on social media: 'A mad man on the roundabout in Soto de Ribera has just killed someone.
'There's an old man's head on the tarmac and a younger guy without his top on covered in blood who's just threw himself at my car.

'Police arrived and manhandled him to the ground. Incredible.'
Another passing motorist witness, named as Arancha Lombas, told a local paper: 'He threw the head at me after getting in front of me.
'He had the head in his hand and he was laughing. As I went by him, I turned round and saw him playing with the head as if it were a football. He must have thrown it at others.'
A local resident told how he had been drinking cider in a bar when a man came in and asked the bar owner: 'Let me wash my hands because I'm covered in blood, someone's killed another person and he's semi-naked on the roundabout kicking cars.
'I helped police bring him under control so they could arrest him but he threw the head at me.'
The detainee, who was topless and covered in blood when he was held, was taken to a police station before being transferred to a hospital psychiatric unit.
He has only been identified so far by his initials - P.M. The dead man had two other children.
It is not yet known why his son, said to have lived with his alleged victim at a house near the roundabout where the horror scene unfolded, allegedly went on the rampage.
The alarm was raised around 10pm last night.
A police spokesman confirmed: 'We have arrested a man on suspicion of killing his father.
'He was taken to a police station but given the condition he was in he was then transferred to a hospital in Oviedo and admitted to a psychiatric unit.
'Initial reports referenced the fact motorists had been attacked by the man held but that information is incorrect and there are no other casualties.'
A police source added: 'Several cars were left covered in blood where the suspect allegedly threw his father's severed head against passing vehicles on a roundabout on the road running through Soto de Ribera.'
Another source close to the ongoing investigation said: 'The investigation is still ongoing but the information officers have at the moment is that the arrested man had no criminal record.
'Why he went berserk in the way he did is something we are still trying to clarify.'
