Stephen A. Smith was highly complimentary of UConn after it captured its second straight national championship on Monday.
The Huskies dominated Purdue, 75-60, to win a sixth title in program history. Their first national championship came in 1999, marking them as one of the winningest teams in the past 25 years.
On Tuesday, Smith was asked what the Huskies proved with their title run on First Take and compared the team to NBA legend Michael Jordan.
'They're the Michael Jordan of college basketball,' Smith said. 'In their six national titles—1999, 2004, 2011, 2014, and obviously back-to-back this year—they're 6-0 in national championship games.'
'I'm looking at the coaching, I'm looking at the balanced scoring attack, I'm looking at the perimeter shooting,' Smith added. 'UConn (was) not a one-dimensional monster.'
Stephen A. Smith called UConn the 'Michael Jordan of Basketball' after beating Purdue
The Huskies won their second straight title, and sixth in program history, in a 75-60 beatdown
'They can beat you (in myriad) ways, and they certainly did it in one game last night.'
UConn tied Jordan's former school, North Carolina, for the third most titles of all time and became the first team since Florida in 2006-07 to win back-to-back national titles. They also set a record for the highest point differential in a single NCAA tournament.
Guard Tristen Newton led the way for the Huskies with 20 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. Three other UConn players reached double digits in points, with Stephon Castle scoring 15, while Cam Spencer and Donovan Clingan got 11 each.
Purdue star Zach Eddey had a productive shift, putting up 37 points and ten rebounds. However, his double-double fell short of leading the team over the defending champions.
The Huskies won their last seven regular season games before dominating their way to the title in the NCAA tournament. They dominated Illinois, 77-52, in the Elite 8 before facing Alabama and taking an 86-72 win in the Final Four.
