A local Mexican television network needs a refresher course in Journalism 101 after a viewer tricked it into showing a video clip of a man's testicles during a live broadcast of the solar eclipse.

RCG TV, a station in the northeastern state of Coahuila, was airing the cosmic event during its '24/7' midday newscast and sharing videos provided by its viewers when it committed the viral blunder.

A male anchor listing the cities where residents had a clear view of the eclipse when the production staff showed a video of a man's testicles moving across the screen to block a light.

'They would be the municipalities where it could be appreciated the most,' he said.

The gross video was subsequently cut off as one of the two female anchors gasped and glanced at him.

'This last video is from a fan,' he said. 'Thank you, we insist to the people who are reporting.'

A social media user under the X handle of @Rhevolver claimed responsibility for the cruel prank and faulted the network for not doing its due diligence.

'Greetings to all my people from Saltillo who had to watch my eggs on television because those at @rcg_media forgot to review the video of the eclipse carefully,' he wrote. 'I love you.'

According to local media, the video clip has been around since 2017.

RCG Media, which owns television station and a chain of radio stations, had not commented on the incident as of Tuesday afternoon.

Its viewers apparently were not offended by the prank as they flooded its X account with jokes.

'They broadcasted the egglipse,' one person commented.

Another questioned the tv station: 'Why were so many hairs visible in the sun?'

'Thank you very much for your program. You made my day,' an X user wrote while adding a pair of laughing emojis with tears.
