For anyone who is looking to buy a zoo in North Carolina, they have two locations to choose from - Zootastic Park and Aloha Safari Park.

Zootastic Park is 186 acres of fun with easy access off of I-77 and in close proximity to Charlotte. Aloha Safari Park in Cameron is closer to Fayetteville. Both include the entire business, inventory and the animals that call it home.

In order to call either one of these zoos home, potential buyers will need to spend between $4.5million and a staggering $16 million.

Anyone who is interested in Zootastic Park or Aloha Safari Park can reach out to Billy Parker of National Land Realty.

According to the Zootastic Park listing, it's the largest privately owned and operated zoo in North Carolina.

The park is known for its exotic animal interactions and kids camps, and it also features annual holiday light displays.

Animals that are currently housed at Zootastic Park include tigers, lions, leopards, giraffes, monkeys and lemurs.

Zootastic Park's revenue comes from daily admission, private animal encounters, the gift shop and the Jr. Zookeeper Camp, which has 10 summer sessions.

Surrounding the park are multiple streams that are great for the animals.

Anyone hoping to make an offer for Zootastic Park has to make sure that they meet specific requirements. The person must be trained in handling  exotic animals and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.

If a buyer meets those needs, then all they'd need to do is cough up $16 million and the zoo will be theirs to own.

Individuals hoping to buy a zoo for a much lower price can look into purchasing Aloha Safari Park.

According to Aloha Safari Parks' listing, the location 'represents the unique opportunity' for a buyer to own one of the largest privately owned and operated zoos in North Carolina.

It is also home to more than 300 animal species and has easy access off NC-87.

Like Zootastic Park, Aloha Safari Park has a variety of ways to make a profit. Aloha Safari Park's funds com daily admission fee, gift shop, concessions, field trips and special holiday events.

The zoo includes different sections to help keep all of its animals organized.

The park's drive-thru section includes bison, zebra, ostriches, antelope, donkeys, llamas, water buffalo and camels.

Its walk-around upper section includes animals such as tigers, lemurs, wolves and monkeys. The indoor areas at the park are reserved for creatures such as the giraffe house and the reptile room.

The listing indicates that the $4.5 million property that rests on 66 acres include improvements for the zookeeper's residence, the owner's residence and the staff residence.

The potential new owner must also follow requirements similar to the ones at Zootastic Park, but it's important that any zoo buyer is aware of all of the regulations that are required for owning a zoo.

Zoo owners must follow the Animal Welfare Act - a law regulating the treatment of animals in research, teaching, testing, exhibition, transport and by dealers.

In order to run a zoo with animals, the owners are required to keep them in a clean space where they can move, provide a rest area for all of the species, a proper diet and veterinary care.

Owners will need a federal zoo license to operate, which are distributed by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. However, the permit requirements may differ depending on what state the zoo is located in.

One thing North Carolina zoo owners will likely need is a wildlife captivity license.

The license authorizes an individual to possess wild animals or wild birds for scientific, educational, exhibition or other purposes.

Individuals who meet the requirements of obtaining the license must fill out an application for staff members to review.

If an application is approved, the applicant can purchase the license for $55.00 within 30 days after the approval.
