An Alone Australia contestant has become the first in the 2024 season to acquire red meat after catching a possum and bludgeoning it to death on the seventh night of the competition.
The grueling show sees 10 survivalists dropped in the wilderness on New Zealand's South Island, where they must outlast their competition for the chance to win $250,000.
On Wednesday night's episode, personal trainer Andeas, 42, was sitting by his campfire when he heard a sound in the bush.
Quietly, he crept into the wilderness to investigate, armed only with his shovel, before he came across his prey and killed the animal.
'Oh s**t, I got him. I have food,' the contestant from New South Wales said, before turning his camera to show the small marsupial's body.Alone Australia's Andreas has become the first in the 2024 season to acquire red meat after catching a possum and bludgeoning it to death. Pictured

In bagging himself a common brushtail possum, Andreas is the first contestant to procure red meat in the competition, while the others have relied on either fish or berries to sustain themselves.
'That's my first possum,' the Swedish-Australian participant announced, 'I never thought I'd take my first possum with a shovel.'
Andreas then strung up the animal and skinned it so he can cook and store the meat, which he believes should last him a few days.
He then returned to his campfire and ate some of the possum meat.

'The crispy skin on the outside is divine,' he said with his mouth full.
Meanwhile, 36-year-old youth worker Jason has not had as much luck with acquiring food, and claims his hunger has gone beyond pain to simply feeling weak.
'Everything's sore, everything's aching. It's past the point of being hungry. It's being really weak and run-down...I really think I'm struggling in terms of having a grip on things,' he said.

Elsewhere in the episode, Suzan reported that she had 'diarrhoea all night and have no energy.'
The 54-year-old wilderness adventure guide speculates that she has been made sick by the berries she foraged.
'I probably shouldn't have eaten those miro berries directly off the forest floor,' she said, before complaining of a fast heart rate.
