FEMAIL spoke to personal stylists Lindsay Albanese and Kemi Ajibare about the best way to guarantee you're embracing your shape

Breaking down the body types! So which shape are you?

Hourglass: When the hip and bust measurements are equal

Apple shapes: Shoulders and a bust that are larger than their hips and waist, which tend to be less defined

Pear-shaped: Hips that are wider than their bust and shoulders

Inverted triangle: Broad shoulders or a broad bust that narrows down through the hips

Rectangular: Straight silhouette with not many curves and long legs

Hourglass

An hourglass shape is when the hip and bust measurements are equal, with Kim KardashianChristina Hendricks, Beyoncé and Scarlett Johansson being excellent examples of celebrities who dress perfectly for this shape.

Personal stylist and digital creator Kemi suggested women with hourglass figures reach for bodycon dresses, pencil skirts with low neckline tops, high-waisted bottoms, and belted dresses and tops that cinch in at the waist.

Kemi complimented 42-year-old Beyoncé's style when it came to embracing her hourglass since she 'always opts for form-fitting styles that highlight her figure' and 'loves to emphasize her curves.'

She's also a fan of how Sofia Vergara, 51, accentuated her curves and raved: 'You never see her without waist-defining belts or bold prints.'

The stylist points to Tracee Ellis Ross, also 51, as another great example of hourglass dressing.

'She's very creative and tries everything from wrap dresses, bold colors and prints, tailored jackets, and stylish high-waisted pants,' Kemi added.

Kemi also namedropped Megan Thee Stallion, 29, as a great source of hourglass style inspiration.

The stylist says the rapper 'keeps it youthful and playful by wearing bodycon dresses, crop tops and high-waisted bottoms, and a lot of cutout details.'

Apple

Jennifer Hudson, Drew Barrymore, and Amy Schumer all dress for their apple shapes, which means they have shoulders and a bust that are larger than their hips and waist, which tend to be a bit less defined.

Lindsay, a former celebrity stylist based in Los Angeles, California, suggested wrap dresses and tops for apple shaped women, which 'help create various gathers and lines to contour the body.'

'Bias cut dresses also add drape that's flattering to the figure,' Lindsay advised.

'If you are looking to minimize, color blocking and contrasting side panels in clothing are magic on the figure to add shadows and pull the figure in,' Lindsay - who has amassed a massive fan base on social media for her outfit ideas - continued.

Kemi explained that if people wanted to draw attention away from their midsection, they should opt for A-line dresses and skirts, which gradually flare out from the waist by emphasizing the waist while minimizing the midsection.

Women with apple shapes should also shop for wrap dresses, which were universally flattering because it helped cinch in the waist, and flowy tops with ruching or draping.

Kemi said to avoid bodycon dresses, tight or boxy tops, and high-waisted pants, which could sometimes emphasize the waist.

Pear

Pear-shaped women tend to have hips that are wider than their bust and shoulders, with Ashley Graham, America Ferrera and Rihanna as examples.

For a pear shape, Lindsay suggested flat front trousers without front pleats, which skim the hips and thighs without pulling and whiskering.

'Cropped and boxy silhouettes on top tend to balance proportions and volume on bottom,' she explained.

Lindsay's also an advocate of pear-shaped women wearing playful wrap dresses, suggesting Diane Von Furstenberg.

Meanwhile, Kemi suggested 'a silhouette that accentuates the upper body while minimizing the lower body,' which could be achieved with 'tailored pants, wide-leg jeans, and high-waisted styles.'

She advised pairing these bottoms with boatneck or off-the-shoulder tops, which 'draw attention upward, which helped balance out a wider hip.

Inverted Triangle

Reese Witherspoon, Victoria Beckham, Angelina Jolie, Renee Zellweger, and Demi Moore have all mastered dressing for their inverted triangle body types, which is characterized by having broad shoulders or a broad bust that narrows down through the hips.

Lindsay said that 'boatneck and strapless necklines will tend to accentuate and enhance this body shape.'

'If you want to streamline or minimize, one shoulder or asymmetrical necklines create lines to narrow,' Lindsay suggested.

Kemi said women with an inverted triangle shape should consider 'clothes that add curves to the hips and bottoms,' including tops with scoop or V necklines' paired with tapered pants, flares, or a wide-leg option.

Maxi and midi skirts are another way to balance out the body.

Rectangle

Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway, and Kate Hudson have mastered dressing for a rectangular body type, which involves a straight silhouette with not many curves and long legs.

Lindsay suggested 'anything that has an asymmetrical neck or hemline,' and added that 'cut outs create faux curves and angles that shape out your frame.'

'Drop waist dresses also drape on this shape effortlessly,' she said.

Kemi said, 'Rectangular body shapes can sometimes be tricky, but people with this body shape tend to have a bust, waist, and hips that are similar in width definition.'

The stylist recommended peplum tops, which 'add volume and definition to your hips,' as well as 'structured outerwear with defined shoulders and high-waisted bottoms, which elongate the legs and creates a more defined waist.'

Women with rectangular shapes should avoid boxy tops or dresses, low-rise bottoms, and oversized clothing if they want to look more defined - but of course, it all comes down to what you feel most comfortable wearing.
