A nutritionist has named all the foods she avoids at the supermarket - and explained why you should stop eating them too.

Susie Burell is one of Australia's top dietitians and wants to make choosing healthy food accessible for everyone.

The first step is revaluating your grocery lists - starting with items that do more harm than good when not consumed in moderation.

Susie previously detailed the four easy 'food rules' she swears by for staying in shape and losing weight.

The dietitian also revealed the two worst diets you can follow for your health - and why they're wreaking havoc with your metabolism.

Dietitian Susie Burrell reveals supermarket foods she never buys:

Processed chicken pieces

Two-minute noodles

Chocolate nut spreads

Fizzy soft drinks and cordial

Processed meat snacks

Bakery cakes and muffins

In a video, Susie shared that she never buys commercially produced pastry-based foods.

'One of the few supermarket foods likely to still contain trans fats especially when margarine is on the ingredient list,' she told FEMAIL.

'Not only is there very little meat in these products but the meat is high fat and there are loads of colours, additives, and processed ingredients.'

She also avoids chicken items with less than 50 per cent chicken - like nuggets and other meals that need to be prepared by frying or in the oven.

Processed meat snacks for kids are also on the no-buy list.

'The rise in processed meat snacks for kids is completely misaligned with the association between a high intake of processed meat and the risk of developing bowel cancer,' the dietitian said.

'I don't buy two-minute noodles packed with salt and MSG,' she added.

Susie claimed the noodles themselves were fine, but she takes issue with the seasoning packets.

'I don't buy full-sugar soft drinks of any flavour or cordial,' she added.

She's particularly mindful of regular drinks with artificial colours - but some diet brands are fine if you check the ingredients.

'There is no place for full strength soft drink in a healthy diet. Closely linked to weight gain in children and adults, a single 375ml can contains a massive 9 tsp of sugar, and all varieties are as bad as each other.'

On the note of checking ingredients, Susie steers clear of nut spreads with more oil and sugar than nuts.

If you have a blender or food processor at home, you can make your own spreads and monitor what goes into them.

She also doesn't buy cakes or muffins with more than 30g of sugar.
