OJ Simpson was mourned by the official Heisman Trophy X account following his death from cancer, leading college football fans to slam the 'crazy' and 'embarrassing' social media post.

Simpson, who won the award recognizing the nation's best college player in 1968 while at USC, was later found civilly liable for the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.

However, that didn't stop the official Heisman account from memorializing Simpson, posting a graphic that said the following: 'The Heisman Trophy Trust mourns the passing of 1968 Heisman Trophy Winner OJ Simpson. We extend our sympathy to his family.'

That post did not go down well with fans, who heavily criticized the graphic.

'No one is mourning but you and his kids,' one wrote.

'Is this a parody account?' another asked.

A different fan said, 'My goodness..........get that resume up to date, Admin,' suggesting that the person responsible for the post would soon be out of work.

Simpson, who died Wednesday at 76 years old, was initially charged with the murders of both Brown and Goldman in a criminal case.

He was later acquitted in a highly-controversial trial, but still saw his reputation take a massive hit from the fan favorite he once was.

A common response to the Heisman post was also that Reggie Bush, another former USC star, should get his Heisman trophy back.

Bush won the award in 2005, but voluntarily gave it back in 2010 after an NCAA investigation had found he accepted impermissible benefits while at school, with heavy sanctions placed on USC as a punishment.

Simpson's murder trial came after a legendary, Hall of Fame NFL career, and sports personality Skip Bayless remembered the former Buffalo Bill as the 'most charismatic athlete I ever knew.

'He's the most charismatic athlete I ever knew and that includes Magic Johnson ,' Bayless said on FS1's Undisputed. 'You could make the case he was the greatest running back ever, greatest college running back ever.

'His commercials were legendary. What a personality he was born with. Just electrifying. I don't want people to forget that he was something. In his day he was something. That is not to discount anything that happened after.'

Simpson passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.
