A beauty guru has declared that a high-frequency wand is the 'most underrated' skincare product for combatting acne and inflammation - but is that really true?
Tatyana Lafata, a content creator based in the U.S., gushed over the tool in a video posted to her TikTok recently.
'Forget serums, forget products, this is the most accurate and efficient way to get rid of breakouts, to get rid of pimples, to get rid of inflammation,' Lafata claimed in the clip.
'It's also gonna stimulate collagen, but it's gonna kill all the bacteria under your skin.'
In a new video posted to TikTok, beauty content creator Tatyana Lafata swore that a high-frequency wand is the 'most underrated' skincare item
'Forget serums, forget products, this is the most accurate and efficient way to get rid of breakouts,' she told her followers
The influencer swore by the product, explaining that it helps to combat her breakouts and other skin issues
The influencer added that whenever she gets a breakout, she just likes to 'zap them away' with the wand, claiming that if you do it the night before, your blemish will be gone by the morning.
And, in the comments section of her post, many seemed to agree.
'Totally underrated. High frequency is old school and works! I remember using this back in beauty school 30 years ago!' one person wrote.
Another typed, 'Hard agree. They're amazing.'
So, is her secret for great skin the real deal?
According to New York-based dermatologist Dr. Navin S. Arora of Boeralis Dermatology, Lafata could definitely be on to something when it came to using a high-frequency wand to achieve a flawless complexion.
He explained that this was not a new concept, as the wand had been used by many for decades.
'High-frequency wands can be an effective tool for improving skin health, stimulating collagen production, and combating acne,' Dr. Arora told DailyMail.com.
He broke down how the wand works, explaining to DailyMail.com that the science 'lies in their ability to generate electrical currents at high frequencies, typically around 100,000 cycles per second.'
As a result, the wand emits a gentle electrical current on the skin, which can have some big benefits.
'When it comes to combating pimples and breakouts, the high-frequency wand's antibacterial properties play a significant role,' the dermatologist said.
'The electrical current creates oxygen molecules that have an antibacterial effect on the skin.
Dr. Maragarita Lolis, a dermatologist at New Jersey's Skin Laser and Surgery Specialists, and Dr. Navin S. Arora of Boeralis Dermatology in New York weighed in on the device
'This can help to kill acne-causing bacteria, reduce inflammation, and promote faster healing of breakouts.'
Dr. Maragarita Lolis, a dermatologist at New Jersey's Skin Laser and Surgery Specialists, recommends using the tool on each area for about three to five minutes, one to three times per week.
When the wand is on certain areas of you face, you may feel a tingling sensation or be left with some redness, Dr. Arora told DailyMail.com.
'It's essential to start with a low intensity setting and gradually increase it to avoid any adverse reactions,' he said.
However, when using a high-frequency wand on your face, it's imperative that you're doing so correctly in order to avoid any unwanted side effects.
'Potential risks include skin irritation, redness, and dryness,' Dr. Lolis explained to DailyMail.com.
'People with sensitive skin, pacemakers, or metal implants, as well as pregnant individuals, should avoid using high-frequency devices.'
She recommends talking to a dermatologist or another skincare professional before using the wand, especially if you have underlying skin or health conditions.
