Germany has warned that an Iranian drone and missile attack on Israel could 'plunge an entire region into chaos'.
'We condemn the ongoing attack - which could plunge an entire region into chaos - in the strongest possible terms,' said German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on X, formerly Twitter.
'Iran and its proxies must stop this immediately,' she said, adding that Berlin stands 'firmly by Israel'.
The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem has told all government employees to take shelter inside the building until further notice, according to a security alert after Iran began launching drones and missiles at Israel.
'In response to security incidents and without advance notice, the U.S. Embassy may further restrict or prohibit U.S. government employees and their family members from traveling to certain areas of Isaerl (including the Old City of Jerusalem) and the West Bank,' the statement said.

A spokesperson told MailOnline: 'In response to increased Iranian threats and the growing risk of escalation in the Middle East, the UK Government has been working with partners across the region to encourage de-escalation and prevent further attacks.
'We have moved several additional Royal Air Force jets and air refuelling tankers to the region. These will bolster Operation Shader, which is the UK’s existing counter-Daesh operation in Iraq and Syria. In addition, these UK jets will intercept any airborne attacks within range of our existing missions, as required.
'We will continue to cooperate closely with our regional partners in the interest of de-escalation.'
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel is prepared for direct attack from Iran.
Following news of the attacks, he said: 'In recent years, and especially in recent weeks, Israel has been preparing for a direct attack by Iran. Our defensive systems are deployed; we are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively. The State of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The public is strong.
'We appreciate the U.S. standing alongside Israel, as well as the support of Britain, France and many other countries. We have determined a clear principle: Whoever harms us, we will harm them. We will defend ourselves against any threat and will do so level-headedly and with determination.'
US Congressional sources say the amphibious war ship Bataan is leading a US naval task force in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Bataan has two support ships and together they have about 2,500 Marines onboard. The US also has several guided missile destroyers including the Carney in the area.
US bases in Iraq have been placed on full alert and will also attempt to shoot down missiles and drones aimed at Israel. In addition, the US has two destroyers and a Cruiser in the Red Sea that are fully armed with anti-missile weapons and they too are under orders to shoot down any Israeli bound missiles or drones.
The US military has shot down Iranian drone aircraft headed toward Israel on Saturday, three U.S. officials said, without disclosing how many drones were shot down or the precise locations.

On X Twitter, the mission the UN said: 'Conducted on the strength of Article 51 of the UN Charter pertaining to legitimate defense, Iran's military action was in response to the Zionist regime's aggression against our diplomatic premises in Damascus.
'The matter can be deemed concluded. However, should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran's response will be considerably more severe. It is a conflict between Iran and the rogue Israeli regime, from which the U.S. MUST STAY AWAY!'
This comes after President Joe Biden on Friday warned Iran against attacking Israel after saying such a scenario appeared imminent and pledged to stand with Israel against Iran.
The European Union's foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell condemned Iran's strikes on Israel Saturday as an 'unprecedented escalation'.
'The EU strongly condemns the unacceptable Iranian attack against Israel,' he wrote on the platform X.
'This is an unprecedented escalation and a grave threat to regional security.'
A spokesperson for the government of Jordan has denied the kingdom announced a state of emergency and said media reports it did were baseless and 'there was no cause for concern among its citizens'.
Minister of Government Communications Muhannad Mubaideen told state news agency Petra the government would take legal measures against any outlet that spread rumours or accusations that are not verified.
Yemen's Huthi rebels launched multiple drones at Israel in coordination with Iran, security firm Ambrey said late Saturday, adding that the projectiles were likely timed to reach Israel simultaneously.
'Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVS) were reportedly launched by the Huthis toward Israel. The UAVs were launched in coordination with Iran,' the company said.
'Israeli ports are assessed to be potential targets', it added, and warned of 'collateral damage' to shipping.
Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron has condemned Iran's attacks on Israel.
Posting on X/Twitter, he said: 'Iran's reckless attacks on Israel will only further inflame tensions in the Middle East.
'The UK calls on the Iranian regime to stop this serious escalation, which is in no one’s interest.
Rishi Sunak has condemned 'in the strongest terms' Iran's 'reckless attack' against Israel after officials in Jerusalem said Tehran had launched drones towards the country.
The Prime Minister said the UK will 'continue to stand up for Israel's security and that of all our regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq' following the regional escalation.
It comes as Tehran launched some 100 kamikaze drones towards Israel, in a 'dangerous escalation', of the conflict in the region.
