Democratic Sen. John Fetterman says Biden shouldn't 'pander to the fringe' of the Party by distancing U.S. support for Israel

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Penn.) said President Joe Biden continues to 'pander' to the furthest 'fringe' of the Democratic Party when it comes to support for Israel.

The administration has started to distance support for Israeli counter attacks against Hamas terrorists operating out of Gaza after thousands of Palestinians and many aid workers have been caught in the cross hairs of war.

Additionally, the president and his national security team have said the U.S. will not engage in counter strikes against Iran after it joined proxies in sending 300 missiles and drones toward Israel since Saturday in coordinated attack.

The recent series of strikes over the weekend, Fetterman told CNN host Jake Tapper on Sunday, proves how dangerous it is for the U.S. to falter in its support for ally Israel.

He said the attack 'demonstrates how it's astonishing that we are not standing firmly with Israel and there should never be any kind of conditions on all of that.'

'When a nation can launch hundreds of drones towards Israel, and I'm not going to be talking about conditions – ever,' the Pennsylvania Democrat said.

He added: 'I don't agree with the president. That doesn't change anything – that he's a fantastic president and I'm proud to stand with him and campaign with him and vote for him.'

Many anti-Israel Democrats have launched protests in recent months against Biden's support for Israel after Hamas terrorists attacked the Jewish nation in October. This has pushed the administration to distance support and has resulted in a careful balancing act for the president up for reelection in November.

'The president is entitled to his own views and whatever he decides to do,' Fetterman said. 'But I would never capitulate to the fringe. I'll never pander to that, as well. In fact, that helps, that empowers Hamas.'

He said Hamas is 'convinced they are winning the PR war' because Biden has faltered on his previously unwavering support for Israel.

'They are never going to negotiate at this point,' the senator speculated. 'They think that they're going to hold onto the very end.'

'I don't know why there's not more of that conversation in the media. Like what about the hostages?' he questioned.

Despite the barrage of strikes on Saturday night, the vast majority were intercepted and shot down before even reaching Israeli air space – further exhibiting the superior technology and military abilities of the Jewish state and its hostile neighbors.

Fetterman said Iran just wanted to have 'some fireworks' by attacking this weekend in retaliation for an IDF drone strike at the beginning of April in Syria that left 12 Iranians dead, including two top generals.

'Iran had to have some fireworks after Israel smoked that Iranian general – and I'm here for that,' Fetterman said. 'And I think it's just a matter of theater.'

The attack from Iran, he added, 'demonstrates how unstable things are and why we need to lean in and stand with Israel.'
