Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. claimed on Monday that former President Donald Trump's 'emissaries asked me to be his VP.'

Kennedy taunted Trump in a message on X, not naming the individuals from Trumpworld who reportedly tried to court him to be on the Republican's ticket.

A Trump campaign spokesperson did not immediately return DailyMail.com's request for comment.

'President Trump calls me an ultra-left radical. I'm soooo liberal that his emissaries asked me to be his VP,' Kennedy wrote. 'I respectfully declined the offer.'

'I am against President Trump, and President Biden can't win,' the former Democrat offered. 'Judging by his new website, it looks like President Trump knows who actually can beat him.'

Kennedy was referring to a website launched by the Trump-aligned Make America Great Again, Inc. PAC, called RadicalF-ingKennedy.com.

The website lists a number of leftist policies Kennedy has said he supports including the Green New Deal, 'high taxes' and 'gun confiscation.'

Kennedy has been critical of the National Rifle Association and has worked as an environmental lawyer.

'RFK Jr. got defensive and emotional when exposed for being a leftist radical,' an email from Make America Great Again, Inc. said after Kennedy's post on X.

Republican-leaning voters have shown some interest in Kennedy's campaign due to his anti-vaccine rhetoric and criticism of how COVID-19 was handled.

DailyMail.com/J.L. Partners polling last month showed that Kennedy was siphoning off 9 percent of President Joe Biden's 2020 voters, while gobbling up 7 percent of those who voted for Trump four years ago.

That gave Trump an edge over Biden nationally - 43 percent to Biden's 39 percent.

In the long run, Kennedy's presidential bid could harm former President Donald Trump, seen Monday in court, due to him attracting suburban moderate Republican women away from the former president

In the long run, Kennedy's presidential bid could harm former President Donald Trump, seen Monday in court, due to him attracting suburban moderate Republican women away from the former president

But Ipsos President Cliff Young argued to DailyMail.com that Kennedy could hurt Trump in the long run, as he analyzed the demographics of those flirting with the third-party candidate.

'He helps Biden more than Trump,' Young said in an interview last month. 'What we're actually seeing is that disaffected suburban moderate Republican that really didn't like Dobbs, probably doesn't like Donald Trump's record with women, that doesn't know where to go,' Young said of the typical Kennedy supporter.

A year ago this week, Kennedy launched his presidential bid - initially running as a Democrat against Biden in the Democratic primary.

In October, Kennedy changed tactics and relaunched himself as an independent presidential candidate instead.

That means he only has to focus on the general election but has to gain access to ballots in every state, which has tended to frustrate independent presidential candidates in the past.

As part of those efforts, Kennedy needed to name a running mate earlier than major party candidates.

Last month, Kennedy announced he had chosen Nicole Shanahan, a Bay Area lawyer and entrepreneur who is the ex-wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin.

Shanahan had donated several million dollars to a Kennedy-aligned super PAC to fund the candidate's Super Bowl television ad prior to joining the ticket.

It's unclear when Trump will announce his running mate.

Typically major party candidates wait until the summer to roll out a VP pick, ahead of that candidate's party convention.

The Republican National Convention will be held in mid-July.
