Rob Gronkowski was only ever going to throw the first pitch at a baseball game in one way.

When tasked with doing the honors before the Boston Red Sox's game against the Cleveland Guardians, the former New England Patriots tight end decided to recreate his trademark football celebration by spiking the ball to the ground.

Gronkowski, who made the 'Gronk Spike' famous in his iconic NFL career, wheeled away in celebration at Fenway Park after the hilarious moment, which quickly went viral on social media.

He then completed his baseball cameo by jumping into the air for a chest-bump with Red Sox star Tanner Houck.

Just hours before his viral spiked pitch prior to the Red Sox game, Gronkowski also made an appearance over at the Boston Marathon, which got underway earlier on Monday morning.

The 34-year-old, who spent nearly a decade in New England, was named 'grand marshal' of the race, having won the 2024 Patriots’ Award.

He was seen holding the trophy - and spiking a football in similar fashion - early on at the finish line on Monday morning, before appearing at the Red Sox game later in the day to throw the first pitch.

'We couldn't ask for a better day,' Gronkowski said, before climbing into an electric car that carried him along the course.

'The city of Boston always comes out to support, no matter the event. The weather is perfection, the energy is popping.'

Gronkowski won three Super Bowls in his time with the Patriots, helping to build a dynasty alongside the likes of Tom Brady in New England.

He was made grand marshal for this year's Boston Marathon after being named the 2024 Patriots' Award recipient, which is presented on a yearly basis to someone that 'exemplifies patriotism, philanthropy, inspiration, and fosters goodwill and sportsmanship.'

Gronkowski's important work for the Gronk Nation Youth Foundation, which aims to fulfill the potential of children through sports, education, community, and fitness, played a part in his selection.
