Aaron Rodgers believes he is now running faster than before he tore his Achilles as the Jets quarterback edges nearer to a return to the field.

Mail Sport has been told that the 40-year-old is hoping to play for two or three more years despite his first season with the Jets being curtailed on night one.

Rodgers was hurt after only four snaps of his debut in New York and has spent the last seven months in rehab after having surgery to repair his ruptured Achilles.

He returned to Jets HQ on Monday for voluntary offseason workouts ahead of the 2024 season. Rodgers admitted recently that he initially feared the injury could end his career. 'I was really thinking: "This is it. You don't come back from this injury,"' he told the 'I Can Fly' podcast.

Now, though, according to a source close to the 40-year-old, Rodgers believes he is where he hoped to be upon his arrival to New York last year.

In fact, Mail Sport understands that Rodgers thinks he is running quicker than before getting hurt.

That will come as a huge boost to the Jets, who struggled without their star quarterback last season.

Rodgers was cleared to make a miraculous return to the field within four months of the injury. But New York's failure to reach the playoffs saw the quarterback remain on the sidelines.

The 40-year-old has been training throughout the off-season and was recently seen going through a grueling workout with USC players in California.

Back in July 2023, Rodgers and the Jets agreed to a new two-year, $75million guaranteed contract through the 2024 season.

But the four-time MVP is believed to have made it clear that he wants to play for two or three more years.

'He's on a mission,' Jets coach Robert Saleh said last month. 'He's on a mission to do a lot of things that he wanted to do last year and he's not going to stop until he gets it done.'

Speaking on the 'I Can Fly Podcast' recently, Rodgers said he is 'excited' about his return to the field.

'I fell back in love with the game (after joining the Jets) and then I had it taken away after four plays. I miss being out there, I love competing,' he said.

'Football is my happy place. That's where I feel most in control of my athletic ability. I missed that last year, I really, really missed it. My heart was broken. I'm excited about taking the field one more time and – not life or death – going to battle with my guys.'
