This is the horrifying moment a gunman jumped out of his car and shot a 31-year-old driver in the chest in Philadelphia.

Police released dash cam footage of the roughly 30-second incident after responding to a 911 call about a shooting at around 9.40pm on Friday, April 12.

The video shows the unknown suspect leap out the passenger side of a Nissan Murano that had stopped in front of the victim while they were waiting at a red light on the 7100 block of Old York Road.

The assailant approaches the car with a pistol raised, appears to think twice and then runs away while firing two shots at the windshield.

The driver was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, with their current status unknown.

It is unknown what caused the shooter to flee, but the victim's hand can be seen reaching for something.

After firing the shots, one of which pierced the victim's chest, the shooter gets back in the Nissan Murano, and the driver punches the gas to flee the scene.

Gunshot sounds appear to be heard from the victim's car as the suspects fled.

Police are now hunting both the driver and passenger seen in the video.

The suspect who fired the shots was described as 'black male, heavy build, full beard, wearing a black skull cap, large glasses with black frames, black hooded jacket with "Nike" logo on left chest, gray sweatpants, black and white sneakers.'

The driver of the Nissan SUV was described as a 'black male wearing a black balaclava style mask, black zip-up jacket over a white shirt, black or gray pants with a black belt.'

Their vehicle was last seen heading north toward Cheltenham Township.

Sources inside the Philadelphia Police Department told a local reporter that the shooting was an attempted robbery planned by the two suspects seen in the video.

The reporter, Steve Keeley, said the victim works at a company called Fast Cash and was transporting $100,000 in cash.

The man transporting the cash reportedly has a license to carry a firearm, which was what caused the abrupt duck and run by the suspect.

Philadelphia police are appealing to community members to reach out with any information that could lead to the capture of either of the suspects.

Authorities are offering the anyone with actionable information that leads to an arrest and conviction a $5,000 reward. They also warned people not to approach the two suspects if they see them but to instead call 911.
