Security preparations are being ramped up amid safety concerns to the public just 100 days until the Paris 2024 Olympics gets underway, according to reports.

France is staging the crown jewel of athletics and team sport this year with it being the first time since 2012 that the Olympics were held in Europe and the first event open to the public in eight years.

The previous Tokyo Olympics four years ago were held under Covid-19 restrictions and huge security measures are now being put in place ahead of the summer games in the French capital.

Organisers are already considering scrapping the original River Seine location selected for the opening ceremony with President Emmanuel Macron revealing security concerns must be addressed beforehand.

Terror group ISIS recently vowed to unleash an attack on four Champions League games with one being Paris Saint-Germain's recent quarter-final first-leg clash against Barcelona.

France has also recently raised its terror threat to the highest level that means it considers an attack to be imminent.

The decision to raise the level allows for exceptional security measures to be put in place and the Olympics are seeing mass plans mobilised to keep the public safe, as reported by The Mirror.

Paris will host 45,000 police officers on duty throughout the 16 days of competition that is expected to bring thousands of athletes and hundreds of thousands of spectators together.

A further 2,500 foreign officers will also assist French police over the duration of the competition with a separate team of British police also in attendance.

Current opening ceremony plans would see the near 10,500 athletes floating down the River Seine as athletes are taken down a six-kilometre route on around 170 boats, which will pass iconic landmarks.

The route will end close to the Eiffel Tower, with the Trocadero gardens hosting the finale of the ceremony.

Areas of central Paris will now be closed off a week before the opening ceremony in a move that is likely to cause travel chaos and over a dozen metro stations will be shut eight hours before the event begins.

French airspace will also be shut over the capital for the opening evening of the Games with foreign dignitaries being ordered to stay overnight.

Furthermore, Paris residents are the only ticket-holders allowed entry to the the Trocadero gardens hosting the finale of the ceremony and background checks are being conducted on every spectator in attendance.
