Melania Trump will be Donald's 'rock' during the trial... but will she take the stand? Insiders reveal how she's 'furious' her husband has mentioned Barron but thinks the hush money case is a DISGRACE

Melania Trump may not be publicly standing at Donald Trump's side during his trial in New York but, privately, she is backing her husband in his hush money case.

Still, her support has its limits. She is highly unlikely to testify on Trump's behalf and will be furious at her husband for bringing their son Barron into it.

When news of Trump's $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels broke, Melania was said to be blind-sided, humiliated and furious. But, like she has done throughout multiple Trump scandals in the past, she is staying by him.

'She's not going anywhere. She's there for him,' a source familiar with the Trumps told DailyMail.com. 'They're going through it together.'

'She's been that rock of the family.'

The ever-mysterious former first lady has remained behind the closed-doors of the couple's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, while Donald Trump sits in the New York court room.

But she's been keeping an eye on the coverage of the trial and is likely unhappy with some of what she's seen.

'I'm sure she's reading all of the news clips about it, the two of them are very similar in that way,' Stephanie Grisham, who served as Melania's communications director and chief of staff in the White House, told DailyMail.com.

In private, Melania has called the proceedings 'a disgrace,' a person with direct knowledge of her comments told The New York Times.

Grisham, who spent four years with a front row seat of the couple's interactions,  bets the former first lady 'wasn't happy' that Donald Trump talked about their son Barron in context of the case. Melania Trump is known to be very protective of her 18-year-old son.

'He talked about missing Barron's graduation to the cameras and then again on Truth Social because it caused a lot of coverage about that and it's just not something she would have liked,' Grisham said.

'No reason to put such a happy occasion into new stories like that, which will follow their son everywhere. I thought it was incredibly selfish of him to use Barron in that way.'

Donald Trump let loose outside the courthouse on Monday, blasting the judge about his youngest son. Barron, 18, graduates from a high school in Palm Beach on May 17 and the trial is set to still be going on by then.

A furious Trump said: 'It looks like the judge will not let me go to the graduation of my son who's worked very, very hard.

'He's a great student and he's very proud of the fact he did so well and was looking forward for years to having his graduation with his mother and father there, and it looks like the judge isn't going to allow me to escape this scam, it' a scam trial.'

Although another person close to the Trumps said Melania would also be upset if Trump had to miss their son's big day.

'She's family person and it's normal that would make someone sad,' the person said.

Melania Trump did not like to see her son in the news during the family's four years in the White House.

She rarely let Barron attend official White House events when she was first lady. Additionally, she would have Barron travel in a separate car - instead of the Beast - when he rode in the presidential motorcade. The dedicated mom even made sure he was buckled up in his SUV.

She also had Barron board Air Force One on the back stairs of the plane so there would not be photographs of him climbing the front stairs with his parents.

While Trump has been publicly fighting 34 felony counts in New York tied to a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, Melania has remained out of sight.

And as she stays behind the closed-doors of Mar-a-Lago, Trump has surrounded himself with a team of extremely loyal and very alluring young women who are often spotted cheering him on at events or hanging out at his Mar-a-Lago golf club.

Melania is slowly returning to public life.

On Saturday night, she will host a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago for Log Cabin Republicans, a group of LGBT conservatives.

Trump must attend the trial, which is expected to last through May, the judge ruled. But he is free to leave the New York area on weekends.

The night of Melania's fundraiser, however, Trump is scheduled to speak at a political rally in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Those close to her say Melania Trump is still mourning the loss of her mother, who died in January. The two were very close and Amalija Knavs was one of the few people that the former first lady completely trusted.

Her father, Viktor Knavs, lives near her and has been seen dining with Melania and the Trump family repeatedly at Mar-a-Lago.

'She's there for her father now that her mother has passed. She is there for her family,' a source said.

The Trumps have been seen together at Mar-a-Lago. Last month, Melania was at Donald's side when he greeted Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary. Orban gave her a bouquet of flowers.

She and Barron - along with her father Viktor - joined Donald and some of his adult children for Easter brunch.

Melania Trump has publicly defended her husband in  some critical moments — including after the airing of an old 'Access Hollywood' interview, where he bragged about grabbing women by their genitals.

She said he was 'egged on' into 'boy talk.'

She said Trump and host Billy Bush were engaged in 'boy talk, and he was led on – like, egged on – from the host to say dirty and bad stuff.'

Her comments were notable given how rarely she spoke or did interviews in the 2016 presidential campaign and her four years in the White House.

She often let her clothes speak for her. She famously wore a bright pink 'pussy bow' blouse to the 2016 presidential debate that aired after the Access Hollywood tape came to light.

And then there was her now-infamous 'I really don't care, do u?' jacket that she wore on a trip to the border. The message, however, was said to be directed at her step-daughter Ivanka Trump. The two women have a tense and competitive relationship.

Even though she has appeared publicly with her husband, including a few weeks ago when she joined him to vote in Florida's primary, at other times, however, her absence spoke volumes.

Melania did not appear beside her husband when he made a fiery speech at Mar-a-Lago after being indicted on federal crimes related to his possession of classified documents going back to his presidency.

She was not there on the night of Super Tuesday, when Trump effectively locked up the Republican presidential nomination.

Now Donald Trump faces 34 felony counts in the New York case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is charging Trump with using his business records to hide the $130,000 hush-money payment to Daniels.

Daniels claimed she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006, shortly after Melania had given birth to their son Barron.

The payments allegedly were made to keep Daniels from speaking publicly about the affair in the final weeks of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump denies the affair and calls the trial a politically-motived 'witch hunt.'

Prosecutors, however, argue that Trump reimbursed his then-lawyer Michael Cohen in a series of installment payments processed by his business, which prosecutors say were fraudulently disguised as corporate legal expenses in violation of New York law.

Daniels and Cohen are both expected to take the stand as witnesses for the prosecution once the trial begins.

The payment to Daniels came to light in 2018, when the Wall Street Journal published the details.

At the time, Melania was first lady and was reportedly blindsided by the report.

She made a last minute cancellation to join the president on his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, which many saw as a sign of her anger at him.

And she also notably traveled to Trump's State of the Union address that year separately from her husband, in her own car, in a break with tradition.

The then-first lady wore a white pants suit to the event - an outfit that was dissected repeatedly. Many noted the pants suit was the kind of outfit Hillary Clinton - Donald Trump's 2016 rival - made famous on the campaign trail.

Additionally, white is the color of suffragists and, during Trump's presidency, it was co-opted by women as something of an anti-Trump uniform.

Melania also walked into that year's State of the Union address on the arm of a handsome military aide - which, in her memoir, 'I'll take your questions now,' Grisham noted that Melania had handpicked the especially handsome aide to make Trump jealous.

In her book Grisham also recalled Melania's refusal to comment on the Daniels story, saying the then-first lady told her: 'This is Donald's problem. He got himself into this mess. He can fix it himself.'

Grisham also wrote that Melania Trump told her: 'I do not want to be like Hillary Clinton, do you understand what I mean?' She said Melania was referring to Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky and the now infamous 1998 photo of Hillary, Bill and Chelsea holding hands as they walked together to Marine One.

'She walked to Marine One holding hands with her husband after Monica news and it did not look good,' Grisham said Melania Trump told her.
