New York's iconic Plaza Hotel became a see of tulle on Wednesday when hundreds of young ballerinas gathered at the famed venue to smash the Guinness World Record for the most dancers balancing en pointe simultaneously.

The record was previously set in 2019, when 306 dancers stood on the tips of their toes for more than one minute - and the feat was aired live on the morning show Live! with Kelly and Ryan.

But today, that record was broken when a whopping 353 ballerinas gathered inside the Manhattan hotel and completed the pose all at the same time.

Stunning photos show the exact moment the dancers, all dressed in matching white tutus and tights, broke the record.

Many of the women are students at Youth America Grand Prix - a non-profit international youth ballet and contemporary dance competition and scholarship program - who organized the event.

The organization - which is the world's largest network of dance - announced its plans to break the record via Instagram yesterday, and invited every dancer in the area to come and be a part of 'history.'

'Attention NYC community,' began its post. 'We are inviting YOU to join YAGP in making history: on April 17, YAGP will be breaking the Guinness World Record for "most dancers simultaneously en pointe."

'Volunteer 45 mins of your time to make history with YAGP as a steward/witness for the Guinness World Record for "most dancers en pointe."'

On top of its students, dancers of all ages and from schools all across America showed up.

Co-founders Gennadi Saveliev and Larissa Saveliev were immediately awarded with a plaque to commemorate the achievement.

Many of the women who participated in breaking the record were extremely proud, and took to the comment section of YAGP's post to share their excitement.

The record was broken place hours before YAGP's Youth America Grand Prix 2024 Finals, which are set to kick off this evening at Lincoln Center.

The event will see 32 women and 32 men - chosen out of 230 soloists from 41 countries - perform 'for its esteemed jury and scholarship presenters.'

The stars asked viewers with any dance experience to come participate during the show's 'Record Breaker Week.'

Kelly even joined in, but admitted beforehand, 'The last time I actually danced en pointe was 1986, when certain dancers were not even yet born.'

'I am one hundred and fifty per cent the weakest link here,' she joked. 'If we don’t do this, I want you to know - it’s not you, it’s me.'
