Robert F. Kennedy's campaign announced Thursday that the independent presidential candidate will appear on the ballot in Michigan - which could have masssive repercussions for President Joe Biden's reelection prospects.
In the most recent poll in the state, Biden has fallen behind former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee.
And during February's Democratic primary, he lost more than 100,000 votes to 'uncommitted,' a protest over his stance on Gaza.
Kennedy and his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, were able to skip the arduous process of gathering signatures to appear on the ballot, as they were chosen to represent the little-known Natural Law Party in the fall instead.
The Natural Law Party already has a spot secured on Michigan's general election ballot - one of five minor parties that are represented.
Robert F. Kennedy is officially on the ballot in Michigan, his campaign announced Thursday, due to the minor party, the Natural Law Party, nominating the independent and his running mate Nicole Shanahan to be their nominees and represent them in the fall general election
The same day RFK Jr. announced he would appear on the ballot in Michigan, President Joe Biden (center) assembled members of the Kennedy clan to appear alongside him in Philadelphia and officially endorse his reelection campaign
The others include Libertarian, Green, U.S. Taxpayers and Working Class parties.
Independent presidential hopeful Cornel West also approached the Natural Law Party, but the group's president, Doug Dern, felt Kennedy was the better fit, he told The Detroit News.
'He's the most qualified candidate in the modern-day history of American,' Dern said in a statement.
Kennedy - the son of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and nephew of President John F. Kennedy - has never held elected office.
He was a top environmental lawyer but in recent years was known better for being a prominent anti-vaxxer.
Kennedy launched his campaign a year ago as a Democrat but switched to an independent bid in October, angering a number of members of his historically Democratic family.
As Kennedy gained ballot access in Michigan, Biden had gathered together members of the Kennedy clan Thursday for a campaign event in Philadelphia to officially endorse his 2024 bid.
Kerry Kennedy, the sister of RFK Jr., said Thursday that Biden was a 'champion for the rights and freedoms that my father and uncle stood for.'
President Joe Biden lost more than 100,000 votes in Michigan's Democratic primary in February to 'uncommitted,' which was a protest vote over his handling of Israel's killing of civilians in Gaza after Hamas' October 7 terror attack
'That's why nearly every single grandchild of Joe and Rose Kennedy supports Joe Biden,' she noted.
RFK's sister Rory Kennedy, a prominent documentary filmmaker, said earlier this month that she won't vote for him because she's too worried about a second term of Trump.
'You know, the truth is, that I love my brother, and it pains me to come out against him, but I am very concerned with the stakes in this election, and I'm very concerned from the polls I'm seeing that he takes many more votes from Biden than he does from Trump,' she told Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC.
'And I think this election is going to come down to a handful of votes in a handful of states, and I'm concerned that his campaign and running for office as an independent is going to lead to Trump's election,' she added.
Biden beat Trump in 2020 by flipping back three states Trump had won over Hillary Clinton in 2016 - Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania - and adding Arizona and Georgia to the Democratic column as well.
